Default What Could Be Wrong? 1995 Civic Not Starting (d16Y3)

brace yourselves, this might turn into a bit of an essay

well, currently in my drive is a 1995 MB1 1.6iLS Civic (United Kingdom Domestic Market) D16Y3 engine

i had been fixing some various bits and pieces on the car for its MoT test when all of a sudden, i couldnt start the car :x

i put the key in the ignition, and turned it, saw some very faint dash lights and then they died and the car wouldnt start. Okay, i thought, as the battery was an old one from my car that i flung in last week, but i thought i could jump start it.

connected the booster and nothing lit up when i turned the key. checked the terminals etc, they were fine, but the gauge on the booster was jumping to 30amps for a few seconds, then going back to zero, then doing the same again.

so then i took out the battery, cleaned the terminals, earths and checked they werent too coroded

seemed fine so i tried again, nothing, booster done the same.

so then i tried the battery from my mums VW Golf, brand new battery. i still had no dash lights or anything...

so now i'm stumped as to whats causing this... anyone have any ideas??

this was meant to be my runabout while mine was getting the H22 put in, but it looks less and less like it will be

sorry for the LOOOONG post, but details are important

had a look thru the fuses but they seemed fine

is the battery fuse likely to be under the hood or inside the drivers footwell?

Check the positive cable that goes from the battery to the starter. Check were its mated to the post on the starter

had a close look at all the fuses, and it turned out it was the fuseable link for the battery, 80Amps

had to do a quickfix with some solder, but all is fine and dandy now :D
