Prepping D15Z1 for installation....need help with seals/gaskets
So I'm about to swap this D15Z1 in my 91 hatch. Anyhow, I had planned on changing the front and rear main seals and the timing belt before installation. After further investigation it appears I'll need to remove the valve cover to replace the timing belt. This will be my oppurtunity to adjust the valves as well, but that leaves me buying a $27 dollar valve cover gasket set (from Autozone)!
To replace the rear main seal it looks like I need to remove the oil pan, another added cost, although that may be a good idea as it gives me an oppurtunity to bang the dents out of the bottom of the oil pan.
Is there any other preparation I should go through besides replacing the water pump? (I'll do this later if there is a failure, because that **** is $50 bucks and I don't want to replace it for fun, I wouldn't mind ripping it back down later if it's bad to replace it).
Does anyone have a link to a good write-up explaining these seal replacements? I have found a pretty good one on rear main seals, but it was on the prelude forum and I think the H22 is pretty different than the D15. Can anyone explain the process to me? Should I get a seal puller?
All these seals look good from a visual inspection, but I wanted to replace them as a precautionary measure. Does anyone skip this step and just put it in with the old seals? Would a factory undisturbed seal work better than an autozone that I install?
Thanks for the help!
