A little help is needed in getting my swaplist together...
Thanks for looking. Recently, I rescued a 92 DX hatch with everything stock. I'm thinking of a B16 swap and I'd like to know what I need for my swaplist apart from the engine and tranny. I was told I might need an engine harness from a 95 EX to make it as easy as possible cuz I dont have Vtec but this is where I'm a little lost. I know that Vtec is wired on the EX harness(engine harness side) but how will it connect to the ECU main harness(ECU side)? Cuz I don't think there's any provisions for Vtec on the DX ECU harness(ECU side)
Thanks.
Thanks.

You're really lucky. '92 model year civics, and only '92 are pre wired for vtec from the ECU to the shock tower plugs. Using a '92 - '95 EX/Si wiring harness makes the whole thing plug and play other than wiring in the knock sensor, which if you use a P28 isn't even required or used.

Will I need axels, shifter linkage and water hoses ? And will the exhaust down pipe fit onto the exhaust center pipe without issue. One more thing, what's the difference between a hydraulic 5 speed and a cable 5 speed tranny? I mean I'm trying to find out which one is the easiest to install for my 92 DX?

94-01 rear tranny bracket, 94-01 shift linkage, 94-01 axcels non abs, depending on which mounts you get 2 post or 3 post mounts your gonna need an integra post mount for the 3 post
cable trannys used a cable conected to the actual pedal to shift gears, hydrolic you have a pump in your engine bay next to the brake booster that uses fluid to move a piston on the hydrolic tranny, just get a hydrolic tranny save you the headace
Hey man thanks alot. Is there anything else I need for the swap or need to know about the swap?

Front tranny bracket - 94-01 Integra
A/C bracket - 94-01 Integra if not keeping A/C; CR-V or Del Sol VTEC bracket if keeping A/C
Anti-roll mounts - stock 92-95 Civic - some will say use the 94-01 Integra ones, but they are flat and do not sit flush with the frame rails
ECU - rechipped P28 ECU (ideal because they are abundant, cheap, and eliminate the need to wire up a knock sensor)
Wiring/engine harness
This will all depend on exactl which B16A you buy. If you get a JDM grey plug OBD1 swap I'd just keep the 92 DX engine harness and add the two VTEC wires. IMO there's no sense in trying to hunt down an Si/EX harness unless you get one cheap and it's easy to locate. It'll be 100% plug and play this way, and look OE, but you can add the two wires needed from the VTEC solnoid and VTEC pressure switch at the shock towers like so:

If you get an OBD2 B16A2 swap then it can also be 100% plug and play (except for having to extend two IAT wires) if you run a 96-01 Integra VTEC (GS-R or ITR) engine harness as believe it or not it plugs right into the 92-95 Civic shock tower plugs and allows you to keep all of the B16A2 sensors, etc. I have a 1998 B18C5 in my 1992 CX this way and I literally did not have to add a SINGLE wire to mine! I'm running a rechipped P28 so that's why there's not a single wire ro run.
This is off the top of my head...I'll add if I forgot something.

Thank you so much man. I have another question though, can I use the mounts that comes with the engine or do I have to use the ones you mentioned? Also, can I use a stock P28 (unchipped) ECU with a manual tranny? Cuz I don't have the money for a chipped P28 or will it run like crap? Finally, if I use a stock P30 then I'll have to wire in the knock sensor, correct?

Exactly which B16A are you buying? If you get one from a Del Sol VTEC or JDM EG Civic you can use those mounts, but most JDM engines have cut brackets so you'd still want to source those. If you get a B16A2 swap from a 99-00 Si then you'd need to source the mounts I listed.

It won't run like "crap" but it would certainly be less than ideal. fuel and timing maps would be on the lean siode, the rev limit would be too low, etc. Trust me there are plenty of people here that can chip ECUs for cheap, or will sell you a chip anmd walk you through chipping it yourself.

Yes. If your swap comes with one and you're short on cash then there's no point in getting a rechipped P28. The P28 is ideal because there are a lot of really nice B series basemaps out there that make little more power than the stock P30, but I would not say a stock P30 is bad, because it's not.
Wiring in the knock isn't hard - it's literally one wire:

Hey man you should write a book on this stuff for people like me. Cuz the way you explained it is A-plus. I mean, I've done a lot of reading on this and let me tell you nothing compares to the way you explained it. Thank you so much man. Oh! The engine I'm getting is a B16 OBD1 from what I'm told. As far as from which vehicle it's from, that I'm not too sure about.
Thanks again.

At the risk of sounding totally cheezy I can honestly say that this is the exact reason I'm on H-T. I remember the early days of swapping and how so much bad info there was out there, so if I can do whatever small stuff I try to help someone from making a weekend ruining mistake because he/she wasn't prepared.

Finally, do I have to lengthened any part of the EX harness to make it work? If so, which part of it has to be lengthened?
Thank you.
Thank you.
