Car Wont Start- Push Starts Fine...STUMPED!!!! PLEASE HELP!
Hello. I have a 98 gsr with ls-v and it will not start but push starts fine.
It runs just fine when push started.
Ive been dealing with this for a couple years and ive finally HAD IT!
Problem used to be intermittent but now will never start. -I used to be able to hold the key to crank position and after a delay (5 seconds or so) would start sometimes.
When I turn the key, fuel pump primes. When I turn to start.... Nothing.
Things ive checked:
Starter (pulled out /tested at auto parts store. machine supposedly tests solenoid)
Battery (holds voltage low 12v)
+ & - battery terminals (corrosion free and tight)
Tranny ground
Battery ground
Head ground
I recently found out that I can take a jumper wire from the positive battery terminal to the starter solenoid and after a few contacts it starts.
-which lead me to believe that I have a short or something in the wire which is causing the starter signal to not get proper voltage. so I traced the starter signal from the starter to the under dash fusebox. Nothing seems to be grounding out. WHAT THE HELL?
Im open to suggestions. If anyone can shed some light on this **** story. Please do!!
EDIT: Problem solved- Checker tester was WRONG. I swapped in a friends starter and it turned right over.
THANKS H-T!!

ok hey um i had the same problem a while back and i took for ever but i finally found out what it was... here u need a friend to help you out and make sure ur batt is charged next go and take a volt meter and plug the pos side to the battery and the neg to th contact on the starter it should read 12 next tell ur buddy to turn the key to start and if at any point the voltage goes down then its not ur starter its ur whire just cut it and put in a new spade conector and i suggest u to change ur ground wires too just cus of rust n corrosion hope that helps!!
i say its either the starter, or your batt cable is soo corroded its not lettin much voltage to starter. like someone else said, do a voltage drop test from batt to starter, if u have less than 12v to starter when u hit the key to start position, your batt cable is prob toast.

You hit the nail on the motha fookin head!
I just got done swapping in my friends b16 starter (different brand). The plunger style is longer but the gears look the same so I tried it. Kicked right over!!!!!
Checker ******** told me that their machine tested the starter solenoid also which I think is
!
By telling me the starter was good ive spent hours and hours trouble shooting.
Oh well, Im just relieved that the problem is solved!!!!!!!!!!
THANK YOU HONDA TECH!
