If you are staying with a 1.6L best production flat out, Toda.

Making a header is not a DIY job.

if ur running a stock b16 u should not run piping larger that 2". ur loosing exhaust pressure. i know everyone will say that less back pressure the better but ive been doing alot of research for custom exhuast and ive come to a conclusion that a 2" exhuast is perfect for a stock motor with a good header, cat, and muffler she will sound very nice as well as she will perform

You want high velocity, high capacity, and exhaust scavenging. Why in the hell would you want backpressure?

BTW, going to too big of a pipe decreases velocity, increasing backpressure.

fwiw im running a bone stock B16A with cheapo knockoff headers, 2" all the way back, no cat. i have a 2" thrush cherry bomb up front where the cat goes and a 2" magnaflow with no baffles in the rear. i forget the name of the magnaflow but its literally an oval glasspack with 2" preforated tube going thru it. slight bend but you can read thru the damn thing.

i pulled 138 at the wheel, and she sounds great.

Go right ahead and explain to me why any restriction or reversion of exhaust gas back into your cylinder is a good idea.

And no, you actually create backpressure by moving to too large of a pipe. Increasing pipe diameter decreases velocity, It's a law in hydraulics, and it's a law in gasses as well.

So again, how is backpressure good?

Wrong. Thats backwards ricer thinking.

gibsanez is right. a properly sized exhaust will get the exhaust gasses out as quickly as possible keeping them as hot as possible.

A properly tuned exhaust system will also promote cylinder scavenging allowing for more air/fuel to enter the cylinder, thus creating more horsepower.

Where's one of our thermodynamics majors at? They usually have already chimed in by now.

Tico, you are semi right 2" seems to be awesome for a mild b16 but let's all say it together kids, "Back Pressure is bad"

***$nyper im not planing on making my own headers im talking about installing them myself.
I also hear that 4-1 headers are generally good for high rpm power whereas 4-2-1 headers increase low-midrange torque (which is what a stock b16a needs)
of course it depends on the quality of header etc but i aint lookin at spending shitloads of money.....
thanks for everyones help!!
