Default clankity clunk noise coming from....somewhere

The best way I can explain the noise is if you had clothes in a dryer and they have buttons on them and they would hit the side of the dryer every now and then. The noise isn't constant but every now and then you hear something. It could happen every 10 seconds or every 5 minutes...very inconsistent. Any input would be greatly appreciated before I start to tear into it. It seems to get louder when it gets cold outside or when I turn left (I think...) but I'm not for sure. It doesn't burn any oil, or drive any different so we don't think it has to do with the motor...

A couple buddies have thought it was the throwout bearing, and things of that sort. But like I said any and all input would help me out.

Thanks in advance!

You might want to check the CV joints of your axles.

No, if it makes the noise at idle, then a bad axle is an unlikely cause.

well throw out or pilot bearings are consitant and dont really make a clank sound.. thye make god awfull screeching noises

u might have a slight rod knock on the motor or something in ur head might be lose. or if u have had ur valve cover off u could have forgoten something in it

grab a few feet of rubber hose and stick one end in your ear and search with the other for the noise.

we took the valve cover off and there was nothing, and we also checked to see if anything was loose or not and nothing. We spent a half hour or so tonight listening and it sounds like its around the transmission area. so I'm not sure
