1998 Accord 4 cyl, dies for no reason
I know this is a big shot in the dark, but my accord(automatic) just dies for no reason while I'm driving. It immediately starts running again if I'm moving. So it seems like it just cuts out momentarily. All gauges reset themselves, so it's like you turn it off and immediately turn it back on.
I don't know if taking it in to a mechanic will do any good since I cannot replicate the issue.
Any ideas as to what could cause this?

I think its quite common. There was a recall on some ignition issue. (i think). Took my car in for it. Worked fine for some time, but the stalling continued every once in awhile.
Holy thread revival Batman! I used the search feature and came up with this post that mimics my problem. It's happened three times now, always on the highway, in 5th (manual). The car surges as the engine dies, but within literally 2 seconds its running again, as the engine is still spinning because it hasn't been taken out of gear and I'm doing 70 mph. Any fixes? Will it start to happen more often? Will it fail to restart eventually? 1998 accord 4cyl manual. It's gotta be ignition or fuel delivery.
10 to 1 it is the ingnition switch next time it dies just wiggle the key and see what hapens. If it were my car I would replace now the elec. part can be had so you do not have to chang out the entier switch good luck
If I get the chance I'll try that. So far, by the time I feel the surge from the engine drag, look at the gauges and mouth "what the...." it's running normally again. No chance to mess with things it happens so fast. That's good and bad I guess.

Being inexperienced I have heard about the ground problem before but I never understand what that means. Is a ground cable loose and not making a connection? Is a ground cable shorted to something else? How does that cause the car to stall?
If you would explain this ground problem, I would very much appreciate it. Thanks.

David,
Electricity must travel from the battery back to the battery, via a ground wire. A loose ground wire acts on the system just as removing one of the battery terminal wires. It breaks the flow and energy will not flow around the loop. Or think of a lose ground as an on off switch in the open (off position.) it breaks the current so current can not flow.
