Default Flame if ya want-VTEC DPFI???

Okay I have a longshot question. Is it possible to run the 88-91 dx DPFI on a VTEC head and block? I am eventually planning on the MPFI changeover, but funds are limited, and I currently have a deal on a d15b longblock. If running a vtec controller it it possible to run VTEC while utilizing the stock 88 dx DPFI? Sounds stupid, but is it possible?

you will have issues with the dizzy, ecu, and injectors working together. In short, no.

Even with using the stock 88 dx ecm and dizzy, maniforld ect? Not sure why that would cause complications. the VTEC would be an independent system from the Stock ecm and ignition system, right?

as long as you can get the dpfi dizzy bolted to the head, and you're retaining the stock intake then you should be fine. if i recall right i read somewhere that said the coolant passage that goes through the dpfi intake is different than the mpfi intake. which if true i gather may cause problems.

it's possible if vtec is totaly seperate from the ecu ,and activated by say ,an rpm activated switch or a vtech controller ,but whats the point just swap the head and ecu and do the dpfi to mpfi conversion it'll save you a bunch of headaches

yea, just do it.

btw, a lot of people keep their OBD0 MPFI 88-91 SI intake manifold, ecu, and distributor with newer heads or engines. You can chip the ecu, but dpfi...idk, I imagine it would at least run.

Vtec can be controlled seperately, however it wouldn't fully take advantage of the system. Independant fuel/ignition maps when VTEC is engages/disengaged, intake manifold should work, dizzy might have to finagle with it to get it to bolt up. Unless your current cylinder head is shotl, I would wait for the rest of the components honestly. hth.

Thanks for all the input. I think I may pick up the longblock, take my time, and get everything and do the mpfi and d15b swap and all at once. My stocker d15b2 does ok for now, so I'm no huge rush.
