Default A worthy companion to the R...

I am picking up an '02 Boxster S later this week. Since my ITR is black, I thought it fitting to get a speed yellow Porsche, just to show the ITR that yellow really is faster. I have only put a dozen or so miles on the car in a test drive so far, but I can tell it is going to be a lot of fun. As good as it is, the brakes are one area where the ITR still reigns supreme. I am keeping the ITR for the time being. It is just too damn nice a car to let go, and it has things like a glass rear window that will be nice in the Winter, not to mention the huge trunk. ITR as SUV? That's the plan.

I'm waiting for the "why didn't you buy the s2000??" flmaes to start

nice choice, the Boxster is a superb vehicle. just like the Honda/Acura crowd there are plenty of aftermarket upgrade kits for it, including beefier brakes. this might be something that you would want to look into. bear in mind though....these things come at a price

Why should they? The Porsche Boxster S is certainly a nice car, with performance and other characteristics very similar to the S2000. Except for one little thing, of course. Or, I suppose I should say, twenty-thousand little things...

A worthy companion to the R...
Here's what I consider a worthy companion to the R:

I got news for you. The Porsche isn't a "chick magnet", either.

Default Denied!

Well it looks like I spoke too soon about the Boxster S and jinxed it. Despite perfect credit and high income, they denied my credit!!! They said I have "no installment loan history." And my salesman intimated that my age might be a factor too. He said I am penalized because I have always paid cash for my cars in the past. He should know, I bought a car from him with cash! It sux when you work hard for something and then snotty old Porsche credit thinks you're too young to be worthy of one of their cars.

...Porsche credit thinks you're too young to be worthy of one of their cars.
screw Porsche credit, go w/ your local bank...rates are low and they should be more than willing to give you a loan...hell, even if you sacrifice a point or two on a 4 or 5 year loan, just send a little more each month to principle to overcompensate...

I have built up my credit very quickly and very easily I might add...I'm 25 and have a beacon score of just about 800 (which is VERY high)...I currently have a mortgage and 2 car loans in my name (and got approved for all of them w/ out having a prior installment loan, these are my first loans)

takes time and perseverance, but I've learned that getting credit through dealers just allows them to screw you more on the price...go to a bank or a credit union HTH

Okay, NOW it's time to tell Mike to get the S2000 instead.

And BTW, your loan amount will be twenty grand less, too. Even with perfect credit and high income, who doesn't like saving twenty grand?

Default Worked out after all...

After a few (hundred) calls, Porsche reconsidered and accepted us. We took delivery of the type R's sister yesterday. And yeah, the S2000 is nice, but it is, to me, a racecar, in the same mold as the type R (if not QUITE as hardcore), but with rear-drive and a convertible roof. It isn't a car I'd drive year-round in MI, and it isn't especially pleasant on long trips. If they quieted it down on the highway and added stability control, I am sure I'd buy that instead, but I guess that isn't what the S2000 is all about. Also, I feel like you have to drive the S2000 like a maniac to enjoy it; it is a total dog around town unless you kick its ***. The Boxster S has TORQUE and it is a riot at anything from 1/10 to 10/10. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the S2000, and I'd love to have one someday. It is just that I couldn't see having an S2000 AND a type R.

actually, side track and i dont mean to bash your purchase, but from what ive seen as far as porsche standards and quality so far is that any porsche above a carerra line, is very meticulate and very well assembled, engine included.

Boxster line are similar, but less quality checks, and the motors are not built as well. never ever ever buy a boxster 2nd hand. youre asking for trouble.

asides that, enjoy your boxster S.

You're right about the S2k though. Fun car although along the same lines as the ITR. More about racing.

I agree with you about the quality issue. I wish the Boxster had the build quality of the type R. I'd go farther and say that I have never been in any Porsche, regardless of cost (and I have been in them all), that feels the rival of the type R in terms of quality. I wouldn't dream of owning a Porsche out of warranty, whereas I won't buy an extended warranty for the type R once the factory warranty is over. Quality is the main reason I'd take an S2000 over a Porsche if it just wasn't quite so loud, basic, and unsuitable for the Winter. There just isn't one car that has it all (huge power, amazing handling and brakes, great tactile feedback, luxury & livability, bulletproof reliability, storage space, Winter suitability, gorgeous looks, affordable price).

Yes, I think we have talked on their before. I don't know about that community thing though. I work downtown, on Main and Liberty. And I go to school at UofM.

We should meet up sometime. I've never even ridden in an R.

I assume you're out of school, and older, what are you doing around AA?
