Default Newbie on ludes. I have a quick transmission question

I have a 97 base Triptronic auto lude. I've found a few SH trans's with the atts is there a way I can remove the ATTS and use the SH trans in a base? I searched but couldnt find a definite answer

My current trans is blown thats why Im asking, I need a replacement.

thanks

If you never delt with it why post?

anyway I hear that SH models only came in a 5-speed and the the ATTS is only in the SH models. so that would meen that auto's cant have the ATTS?

is this true can anybody confirm this or?

I've never heard of ATTS being paired up with an automatic transmission, but I couldn't give you a 100% guarantee that that's the answer. There is a thread in the FAQ about the type SH model and ATTS.

Is there a reason that you're looking at SH transmissions as opposed to replacing with a base model manual transmission? I think there is also a thread about the auto to manual swap on here somewhere. If I decide to go looking and find them I'll post the links.

NO... you need a transmission other than those with the m2u4 code. your asking for a headache with atts, and near impossible compatability with your car. you really have 2 options, sell your car and buy a manual, or do a transmission swap. plain and simple i wouldnt put in another auto tranny because your guaranteed to have the same exact problem later on down the road...

if you do the swap, m2y4 is the usdm transmission you need. check the faq for transmission resources and information, there are other transmissions you can use aswell

m2y4, m2b4, m2a4. t2w4, m2f4, m2s4 will all work. as for the m2u4, im not sure, but probably more work than you'd wanna do in any event.

I wasnt looking to use an ATTS trans. I was just trying to clear some things up about the auto which is done now.

Im just looking to throw another auto in at the moment. If I cant find an auto I might just go ahead and do the auto-manual.

if you dont have too much invested in your car, put in another auto transmission, and sell it to buy a manual. i promise itll save you a headache or two
