Heat shield removal....under car? Safe?
The exhaust bouncing off of the heat shield is irritating the hell out of me. What side effects am I going to suffer when I remove this crap. I would only be removing it around the resonator since that is where it is hitting.
Thanx.

I would only be removing it where the resonator keeps vibrating against it. I know they deflect the heat down. therefore, would the heat effect the inside of the car.
I.E. too hot of a floor for the carpet and melt?

I pulled mine a long while back. No problems so far but I will note that during my 1hour 20minute commute, I can feel the heat comming through the E brake housing. Annoying....alittle. Dangerous....doubtful. The carpet never gets hot to the touch though.
I'll probably use some heat sheilding once the turbo has been finished.

if you are talking about the heat shield for the cat i would not do it cause if a cop looks under your car and there is no heat shield he will think it is stright piped and you can get a big ticket for it...
Guys... there are two different "heat shields" that we're talking about here for the cat basically. One is the piece that bolts to the tunnel of the body of the car, and deflects heat rising from the cat. The other is a heat shield that wraps around the cat and bolts up with 4 small bolts.
The one that's rattling is almost certainly the first one I mentioned, and is pretty much a no-brainer to remove, and hasn't caused me ANY problems so far at all (not even a warm shift ****... that heat shield on my car isn't even close to the underside of the shifter assembly).
There really isn't any reason to remove the other one bolted to the cat, as it's more than likely NOT the one that's rattling. If it is bent from too much pavement scraping, just take it off and bang it back into shape with a hammer or something.

I had the same problem when i put on a cat-back, all that i did was take the heat shield off and modify it with a ball-pien hammer and put it back on. Now it looks the same as stock and doesn't rattle at all. After all honda engineers don't make big $$ to put heat shields in places that don't need them.
A solution to your problem if you must remove that heatshield is then to get exhaust wrap and wrap that resonator, or whatever is in your way.
Another possible solution is not to remove it at all but take a rubber mallett and bang on the heatshied until it clears the exhaust. I know what part you are talkign about so its a very fine flexible metal if you don't feel comfortable about removing it.

It is safe to remove the under car heatshield. My thermal 3" exhaust was hitting the one of the Cat, so I removed it. I dont know about anyone else that has removed it, but to me it feels like it is hotter in the car at all times
