1. Do you know what the width is on the wheels? If you don't - were they the stock wheels for your Civic, and if so, what kind of Civic - year? coupe/sedan/hatchback? LX/EX/Si?

2. What is the X? And what make/model of winter tires?

A 94 Civic should be using 185/60-14 or 195/55-14, not 185/70-14.

That's correct. 185/70-14 is MUCH too big for that car. The car came from the factory with 185/60-14 tires mounted on the wheels, which are 5 inches wide (part number 42700-SR1-965).

205 treadwidth tires are too wide to be mounted on 14x5 wheels. And the outer diameter is almost certainly too large for your car, too.

Incidentally, if the tire size on the sidewall is labeled as "205/-14", that means the aspect ratio is 80. (The aspect ratio is the middle number in the tire size, and represents the ratio of the tread width to the sidewall height.) So 205/-14 is the same as 205/80-14. Which is much, MUCH too big for your car.

If you're looking for winter tires for your car, the Tire Rack has four different "studless" winter tires in the proper 14" size for your car:

Bridgestone Blizzak WS-60 185/60R14 $72
Dunlop Graspic DS-2 185/60R14 $58
Goodyear Ultra Grip Ice 185/60R14 $71
Michelin X-Ice Xi2 185/60R14 $80

I had issues with that exact scenario. Tried calling several stores to check for tire availability, and when I tried to explain the tires were 155SR13, they kept telling me I needed to tell them the profile. Eventually found a shop with someone old/knowledgeable enough to remember that "standard profile" tires don't include the 80 in the size.

Of course, actually finding a 155/80-13 was a challenge in itself. If only I could find wheels with a 95.25x4 lug pattern to use a more available tire size...

Sorry for the OT post.
