its weak above 7k rpms. but it actually makes for a good DD. You don't have to ride out every gear just to go somewhere
I miss my h23.

Neg's...
-no piston oil squirters
that's all i can come up with.

It's a torquey motor, so there's really no need to rev it up to high rpms.

What exactly are you trying to do with the motor?

Negatives?

No Vtak y0!
If you start adding camshafts emissions becomes harder to beat.
Compression is a little low to do much with.
High mileage H23s have a tendancy to spin bearings when abused.
No quality header support
More difficult to get to idle
Low vacuum at low rpms with big cams (affects power brakes).
FRM sleeves
Lack of top-end power

Positives:
Cheap engines
Cheap yet effective cams (Crower)
Able to get high compression with H22 pistons
Torquey with great midrange http://i30.tinypic.com/264kl1j.gif
Lighter cylinder head/cams than H22
Lope at idle with big cams
More simple than VTEC

there are a few options for cheap engines i can buy but the H23 is one i dont know enough about. i would like to build a crx with SOHC VTEC D16, DOHC ZC, or H23. the H23's numbers are good for stock and has tons of tq for the off the line that honda usually has problems with. would replacing the bearings solve the spinning issue? or is there an aftermarket pieces that will do better?

Bisimoto's F22 header bolts right up to the H23, and he custom makes his headers for individual applications, so there is at least one good (incredible understatement) header out there for it.

I am aware of the compatability between F22A/H23 but Bisi supports F22A first and foremost. As you say it's custom where as B-series and K-series have dozens of "shelf" headers that are within 2-3% of the $1000 custom headers. H22s even have a few shelf headers availabe that do not take months to get.

Yes, Bisi really knows his stuff, but one man does not constitute "aftermarket support" in my book. I am very happy that he's filling a small gap in the market though. I wish I could justify adding another $4000 to my "H23" build. Port job, sleeves, rods, pistons and custom intake/exhaust manifolds.

as much as puttin an H22 in it.....Except u don't have to wire in VTEC....

In a CRX it should easily do burnouts thru 1st and 2nd if u drop the clutch.

1st gear might be useless if u add just a few bolt ons to it.
