Default New Here, 97 Civic Turbo (rice warning)

I used to drive an 05 C230 but decided to get a cheaper daily for college so I don't have to worry about dings/scratches/dents.

So I picked up my first Honda this weekend. Yes, it's a bit ricey but I think it can be fixed with new wheels/body kit.

Sorry for the bad pics but here it is....

Mods (I'm not even sure what all was done to it as it was all done by prevoius owner)

97 civic dx

Exterior
budy club body kit
S.F front bumper
projector head lights
carbon fiber tail lights
17 in ssc chrome rims

Engine
dl6y7 motor
mini-me v-tech swap
forged rods and pistons
block guard
stage 3 xceedy clutch
T3/T4 turbocharger
type hks blowoff valve
big front mouth intercooler
dsm 450 injectors
eldelbrock intake manifold
vega strut bar
aeromotive fuel presure regulator
38 mm wastegat with a 8 psi spring

audio
7" lcd dvd player with touch screen
rockford fosgate amps
boss crosover
6" infinity speaker component on the front
6x9 polk rear speakers
fiberglass trunck

gauges
oli psi
boost
wideband sensor gague

suspension
progress 2" drop
dropzone gas struts

I'm keeping the car as is until next spring/summer and then I'll be de-ricing it. I saw the following Civic posted on HT and fell in love...I plan to make mine look like that. I still have to search and see what all I need to do to make this happen. Not looking to spend too much as this is just a daily.

Wow, outside it looks like ***...and inside it looks like ***...but it looks nice under the hood and in the trunk, and that's all that matters I suppose .

I say get rid of the kit and rims and you'll be fine. May wanna retain those fog lights if you're into that kinda stuff, same with the heads and JDM corners.

I won't flame you for buying that. I will flame you though for buying a Honda Civic to drive when you have a beautiful Merc at your disposal. It's not like it's a Ferrari that's impractical to daily or anything, and although I really am not a big fan of the C class (the build quality feels low), I'd have to say that I'd daily a Merc over a Civic in anything except the snow (I don't know about you but my old E class has an open diff and a not-so-great weight distro making it the easiest car in the world to get stuck in snow).

Though look at the facts, in '90 Merc had features that only now companies are starting to put on their cars. And it's not like the 230's a gas guzzler or anything.

Dude, you're going backwards.

Good luck with this. Start a build thread.

It won't take entirely too much to get it to where you want. You may be lucky enough to find someone to buy the parts you take off of it.

Thanks, I sold the benz because It would just sit and depreciate. I don't have a garage as of now and can't stand parking it outside. I got a good offer on it so I just sold it. The C wasn't too good in snow the one time I drove it. It got stuck in the driveway but was on summer tires. I never really drove it in snow other than that one time. Yes, I thought the older w203 c-classes felt "cheap" as well, but the 05-07 have a quality feeling to them in my opinion.

Yup, I plan on getting rid of the kit/rims in spring/summer.

I've had a bunch of unwanted attention from cops already. I had the muffler changed up for that reason.

Yes I know it's a step backwards, but I should be back in a benz/bmw in a couple years.

****, Get rid of the bumpers and rest of kit, hood, head/tail lights, rims, and you should be good to go. You can make it look real nice outside. The inside is not bad. Just the outside.

wow... one hell of a project car.... tho it is alot cleaner than the 95 I almost purchased that was almost this bad but in worse condition (cracked cf hood, cracked fiberglass body kit, faded gaytezzas, ect)...

On a side note, I've got a set of OE looking diamond red clears lying around I could sell ya if you wanted. While they're not OE red clears they are alot more legal (read: less attention grabbing) than the black gaytezzas ( I know this for a fact cause I swapped the black ones I had out for these and just that alone made less cops want to follow me for blocks... no lie)...

Either way I wish ya luck, it'll look good when done...

for now i'd say ditch the side skirts and just roll the bumpers and sell the heavy chrome wheels and get something descent. it'll make a huge difference but of coarse its not gonna be like that other civic you pictured.

you can also change change the paint if you want on the dash with something not so in your face! white dash and sun i bet it gets pretty bright during the day!

As long as you picked it up for a good price thats a good deal, all you have to do is take all the ghey looking stuff off of it on the outside, the engine and turbo kit all look good, and with forged internals there is no reason for that car not to make 350whp how it is.

Have fun with the build

seems easy enough.. just sell the body kit and system and hit up certifit haha.. but forreal you would probally still have money to get it painted at the end.

It has potential, just get rid of the body kit, get OEM headlights. O yea, the picture of hte civic you want your car to look like is a 99-00 front end, so you gotta swap out hood, fenders, bumper, etc. However, I still like hte 96-98 front end if you do a type r conversion with the OEM CTR headlights. I have to admit, I'm happy to see that you're turning that ugly thing into something respectable and downright sick looking later on. I love people who de-rice cars, we need more people like you willing to do things like this. I sure as hell don't have the money to buy replacement OEM parts, so thumbs up to you...hahaha.

should be fun...i agree with just about everything that has been said, but i think i would repaint the valve cover black.

Glad to see you are doing such a noble thing for the poor car

I didn't read most of the thread so I don't know if this was mentioned....but that kind of looks like an eBay turbo kit (although its hard to tell with those pictures...)

If this is from eBay, you should look into replacing (at very minimum) the turbo. Also check for cracks in the manifold.

When you turn on your car, check to make sure the engine light turns on for a sec and shuts off. Lots of times the previous owner will pull out the bulb to hide engine codes.
