Just bought a '99 coupe, more or less rust free and I'd like to keep it that way.

So wondering what others have found to be rust problem areas, where does rust like to start on these cars? The obvious rear fender lips, but where else?

I plan on preventing the rust by undercoating it myself (Fluid Film FTW!). I will drill holes where needed, spray the rust preventative stuff in, and then plug up the hole with a plastic/rubber plug. Common 'undercoating' practice.

What I'm trying to find out is, where should I 'check' for rust that may be hiding and also where to pay significant attention when applying the Fluid Film.

Any help / thoughts / experieces are appreciated.

rear wheel arches are notorious for crap colletion. pull off the black rubber arch protectors and give the inner arch a good scrub with a nylon brush. you'll be shocked by what comes off.

besides the obvious visible panels... check seams where water colllects... as a preventative use truckbed liner for an undercoat.

other then that.. just spray/wash your car down often to prevent rust. theres a salt eater spray that does a good job at washing the salt away that causes rust
