CRX As First Car?
I'm 16, and I get my license in February, and I'm gonna start to look at cars soon, and I would like to get it sometime in November, register in it January, to give my self some time to make it my car, and then time to get used to driving it. I was looking at an older VW Bug for a while, and a Suzuki Samurai, as both are kinda my style, they have a different look, and get good gas mileage. But my parents were "blah blah blah Civic blah blah Honda makes good cars blah" And EVERYONE has a Civic, and I've never been much of a conformist, all my friends play football, I kiteboard, and paraglide, lol. Anyways, I was driving down the highway the other day and saw a CRX, and I loved it, and of course I played the "Honda makes good cars" card they were using. And they get good gas, especially if I can get my hands on a HF model. I would also really like a manual, so that works out nicely for me.
So, what do you think? Is a CRX a good first car?
Thanks,
Nick

It's a great first car many people have had them as first cars on here.
Do what YOU want. Tons of people have these cars because they are good cars, don't be an anti conformist conformist. Breathing is great right? We all do that.
Take one for a test drive, see what you think.

CRX is a great 1st car, as long as you find one that hasn't been beaten. 20 year old cars have a tendency to be a PITA once they start to degrade though.

it makes a great first car, the only problem I see is the general lack of respect a first car gets, and that your first car is the one you are most likely to smash up.
It would be my baby, I would definitely not abuse it. The only damage would be an accident, but I wouldn't do anything to it on purpose. What do you think about putting a tunnel hatch onto it? Those look really cool.
Just thinking....

hmm.....whats a tunnel hatch?
Anyways, crx's are great 1st time cars. They are cheap and easy to build as you progress in life. I highly recommend getting one...Crx was my 2nd car, then my 4th, 5th, and 6th...haha..no joke.

Exact reason why NOT to get a SI! To many problems with the sunroofs.

my first car was my crx and i still have it =D i bought i when i was 15 =D the only thing i would recommend is not to buy one on here cuz its either beat up or too expensive =P there are some good deals but i would try autotrader or something =D
Its an awesome first car especially for daily driving, just make sure you don't suck at driving because accidents and CRXs don't go well together. GREAT MPG THOUGH!
my first car was a 89 crx si it wasnt a bad car id recomend it but it will need a lot of "t.l.c."trust me on that
then ull proly move on to better hondas

My first car was a '91 Tahitan Green Pearl Si (Still have it!)
My second car was a '90 Rio Red Si
My third car was a '91 White DX
My fourth was an '89 Flint Black DX
My fifth car was an '01 Berlina Black S2000 (Still have it!)
In my opinion I like the CRX
Especially ones that are just regular and you can drive without worry. You'll be having the most fun you can have when you have a carefree reliable car in highschool.

CRX would be a great first car. Very common, and relatively low value makes them cheap to buy and allows for peace of mind when learning to drive. However, if you think that you have any chance of modifying it for performance, stay away from DX models, as they are only dual-point fuel injection (has two fuel injectors feeding four cylinders), where as HF and Si models are multi-point fuel injection (each cylinder has its own fuel injector). Any motor swap you'd ever do would require sourcing a few harnesses and injectors from either an Si or HF to convert it to MPFI.
If you're not worried about performance at all, then a DX is an option as well.
The newest CRX is still going to be ~17-18 years old, so I suggest befriending a mechanic who has access to a lift and would be able to get any potential buys in the air for a THOROUGH inspection before cash is handed over. Always better safe than sorry.

I didn't realize this was a common problem with Si's. Good fact to know.
And yeah: WTF IS a tunnel hatch?

a 91 CRX DXwas my first car, and still my current one
and i love it
but if you plan on modding it, like said before the DX is harder to work with
but it can still be modded, just takes a little more work
but do what you like best
CRX was my favorite Honda since i was 14, then i bought one at 17

Yeah, I won't do any mods to it really, beyond tires, or a body kit. And no ricer bumpers, I just like the way the tunnel hatch looks....however, I want to be able to do the speed limit, without cops all over me....=/
I don't want to mess with the engine at all, I may do some things, but im talking about basic stuff, like cold air or something.
