Default Transmission fluid

Hello all

The local parts guy tells me that my 1996 accord manual 5 spd takes 10-40 motoroil instead of gear lube. What came out smells like gear lube!!

Just use Honda MTF from the dealership, tranny is 2 quarts IIRC.

The earlier models had motor oil in the manual, later models said MTF.

I have noticed a difference with my shifts between using regular 10W30 or 10W40 oil and the Honda MTF. I have since then stuck with Honda MTF. I get way smoother shifts.

^ Yep, it certainly is not going to hurt having the oil in there, but the MTF/ATF is meant for it.

Another vote for OEM fluid, it does make a difference, have seen it all over the net.
