Hey everyone, just moved over from Tristatetuners.com. I just picked up my first honda after owning several domestics.
Just picked up a 89 civic hatchback, auto with 111k miles on it. Plans are to first fix the body damage, then swap to manual, take care of some rust issues, swap to MPFI rather than DPFI then lower it 1.75" all around and so on and so forth. Car sits bone stock, runs but needs a little work at the moment. any suggestions, please feel free to throw them here. I do not know much about honda's, or any import for that member. Hopefully H-T can help me out here.
Heres 2 pic of how the car sits at the moment.
^^Yes, thats a rose license plate on the front. lol

I bought it from a fellow TSTer. His gf ran into an old lady and crunched the hood. i plan on replacing the fenders, hood, bumper and possibly the supports in the front. the supports arent that badly damaged, a few kinks but i may be able to knock them back into place.
as for my plans with the car, im shooting for 200 to 250 hp. This car is primarily just to learn on. I want a low budget build (dont we all) and a good learning experience, which is why i bought it with damage and a little rust.

LOL, christ frosti's gf really mashed that thing up good didn't she.
Like I said on TST, read the FAQs at the top of the forum. It will definitely get you a nice head start as to what you can do with these things. Too many choices to really decide for you though.
Take your time, no need to rush. Just do some research, decide the project you want to tackle, and tackle it.

i got a jdm d15b vtech obd1 mpfi swap in my 90 dx hatch... it is completly awsome for the price of the swap, i must say i love it and recomend it. but then i have never been behind the wheels of anything with a b series, so i dont really know what i am missing, got a bottom end i am building for boost, all in all the swap was fun and cheap, and that what matters to me. good luck!

thanks man. I'm leaning toward the D series, D16a6 and a Si trans. I feel like that will make the most sense for a low budget build.
skidmarkroyalty Ive been behind both a d and a b and to be honest I would stick with a D, My friend has dumpted so much time and effort into his B that to me isent worth it.
To the op good luck with the project looks like a fun one, if you decide to stick with d series check out d-series.org and thezcr.com
Good luck!

So i started the front end work on the hatch to see what exactly i need to replace. Sadly, i could pretty my salvage 4 parts, bumper lights and bumper mounts. lol hood, fenders, bumper, headlights, turn signals, bumper seam, and radiator support is trash. Right now, i just want to get a new radiator support. Ill throw pics up of the progress.

Gotta start somewhere right? The radiator looks to have only minimal damage (if any to it). Its not leaking nor over heating, so ill let that go for now. Anyone have parts, feel free to let me know.

Eric that rad support looks fine from the pictures. Nothing a hammer and maybe a winch and a tree can't fix? Fender, bumper, headlight, hood, and a corner light and you should be set.

i bent it back a little bit. untwisted the crossmember for the rad support. lol. Its only a few degrees off according to the level. i figured that wont make too much of a difference. not sure what its called, but the pillar that runs down the passenger side of the engine bay (the fender bolts into it, i believe) is ever so slightly bent. I image this will just simply cause my alignment to be slightly off all the time. I bondoed some surface rust on the driver side side skirt and cut out some pre bondoed and rusted area. ripped off the passenger fender and now im trying to figure out where my brake fluid is leaking from.
