Lifting a crx
Hello boys and girls. this is for the %.01 of you who may want to lift a crx or hatch on the cheap.
after extensive research and a total of three bags of chips i decided to try to use DC springs on my crx to see how high i could run her.
for the record i rallycross this hooker so it wasnt me just being a redneck.
ok so first the numbers, i had the oportunity at the parts store the other day to run into a nice guy who let me measure his stock suspension. Thank you Justinw
all measurements are taken from the center of the axle to the bottom of the fender, so your wheels should not effect anything other than you overall clearance
as is to be expected in a 20 year old car his passenger and driver side difered slightly, so stock height seems to be:
FL- 13 3/4
FR- 14 1/2
RL-14 1/8
RR-15
my car had a set of lowering springs that come in a set with the tokico blues. these springs i beleive should drop your ride height from stock by 1 1/4 inches, my measurements where
FR - 13 1/8
RR - 13 3/4
With the new DC springs it brought it up to
FR - 16 1/8
RR- 16 1/8
HUGE difference. i cant begin to explain how goofy it feels on the street, I look forward to the race next month to see how it handles a jump.
and pix.....
front wheel with tokico spring

rear wheel with tokico spring

clearance shot from rear

clearance shot from front

yes i know my front end is all jacked up this is why im lifting it maybe i mentioned it before, but i rallycross this beast
LIFTED on dc springs and with a kumho R700 rally tire

just the back end up because it looks funny

the front on dc and rally tires

OMG it is goofy way up the air

and now for the tech.... you have to take a razor knife and trim the little tabs inside the rubber cup on your upper spring perch to make these fit.
i seem to be rocking 8 1/2 inches of ground clearance now. it is trully absurd, but oh what a joy to rally.

your in NC, why dont you come out and rallycross?
and for the record i did save this rex, I took a body kit off of it, i took the clear lenses off, I stripped the paint from the interior trim, and i took the fart can exhaust off. and some other stuff im sure i have forgotten. oh yea it also didnt run when i towed it out of this guys yard.
on an unrelated topic when i say i did all this stuff i mean i had other people do it since i cant wrench to save my life, thanks superchicken!

Dammit that's what I need (see my post about taller tires) Winters up here are brutal I need max ground clearance for winter.
Anyone have a set of springs for sale? (I'm not a honda guy which car is a DC?)

if you have the money coilovers are a much better solution to this. also you may want to wait till i find out what camber issues i may be about to have

coilovers give you the option to go overheght, the trick is since nobody wants that you have to special order them. simply get a set of regular coilovers and then order an 8" spring in your choice of rates.
voila, of course thats gonna be about $300 and all i had was 50

Alignment update
had her aligned yesterday and the news is not bad. the lift does generate some positive camber and of course our cars do not have stock camber adjustments. However the end result is that my passenger side had .1 degrees of positive camber and the drivers side had .7 degrees. both are within "tolerance" caster was withing tolerance also at 2.9 drivers and 2.4 passengers.
the only issues i have currently and they are minor.
1. my car has taken some pretty hard hits and the camber is .6 degrees different left to right.
2. i cant dial in any negative camber wich would be nice for racing.
3. wheel gap wich is hideous on a street car is freaking sexy on a rally car.

You're not allowed to dial in neg camber ? Or you can't? I'd just take the front knuckles and bend them to get the - camber if you are allowed ?

its not an allowance issue as far as the rallycross people are concerned. its that the place i took it to is uptight and doesnt consider bending parts an acceptable form of adjustment. yes stuff can be bent into correct camber, but the problem that i have is the frame is already tweaked just a hair out of tolerance. im going to have a whack at her with a hammer sometime. starting with the frame

da lower control arms should give you some negative camber. i know that if you switch the upper on a civic that is way slammed it will give 2-ish degrees or positive camber, so i would imagine the same to be true for the lower. if u match them up, the da should be just a bit longer. worth a try, and i may do it to my civic hatch just because.
