Wierd acceleration issue Tranny slipage?
On a regular stock 99 honda accord with manual transmission. How would you diagnosis this problem.
First started in 4th and 5th gears if i gave the car to much gas the rpms would go up faster then the speed, kinda like a automatic tranny slipage. where the rpms go up alot faster then you move. The wierd part is 1-3 gears worked fine. The the 3rd gear started acting the smae way, now 2nd gear is starting to do it.
seems like if i give it to much gas around 4k is when it acts like that.
I threw out the clutch because its engaging and disengaging fine.
i havent checked the manual tranny fluid yet, anyone have any ideas?

You are sure the clutch is good?
pull on the parking brake, put it in 5th gear at idle and slowly let off the clutch.
The engine should stall out,; this is a good test for clutch slippage.
The other test I do is drive on the highway in 5th, hold the gas pedal steady, then bump the clutch on and off. The RPM should stay even.

Hey honda-dude thanks for the reply, i am not sure aBout the clutch, the clutch was replaced about 2 years ago with a cheap advanced auto parts one if i remember right. didnt think i was ever gonna boost is why.
i will try these tests and report back,
to give you more of a feel of whats going on, its like losing traction but im really not. rpms going up but still increasing alittle speed.

you were too quick on the trigger eliminating the clutch because, (wait for it)
it IS the clutch causing the problem.
There is nothing inside the Manual transmission which would allow it to slip. It's all gears, shafts and shift forks in there.
Your clutch (however) is all about slipping. Every time you shift, it slips (to some degree).
While you're addressing the new Clutch Pressure Plate, Disc and Throw-out Bearing issue, pay particular attension to any fluid (bad) which you might find in the bellhousing. Engine oil (Rear Main Seal) or Hydralic Fluid (Clutch Slave Cylinder) will rapidly ruin a clutch.

thanks p_adams good info! I guess i eliminated it becasue it was slipping in gear under acceleration around the 4k rpms, i dont know much about them, I was thinking well if its in gear then the clutch did its job, i need more transmission experience huh, haha.
Don't diss yourself, no one's expected to know everything. You were smart (and brave) enough to ask.
The crime would have been if you hadn't.
