Default Question about a 99 Civic SI

Alright, this guy i know is purchasing a 99 bone stock SI, he says that hes gonna dump enough money into it to wipe the floor with my z28. Now with drag radials im currently at a best of 12.63 in the heat.. (i hate florida in the summer) Wondering what all he will have to do to compete with that, considering hes on a limited budget. god knows he'd turbo it but does he have to forge the internals and all that? he won't be going the nitrous route. - Ryan

The B16 is the best stock vtec motor for boost...It will run 12's without lifting the valve cover, as long as he adds enough fuel, tunes on a dyno with the Lambda, and practices feathering the clutch...The B16 has lower compression than all DOHC Vtec Motors, plus with a little opening up of the Combustion Chamber, he can knock Compression Ratio down to 9:1, but thats not for the timid...Fuel and lots of it is the key to eliminate Detonation...Make sure he stays under 8,500 rpm when he races...No powershifting, no dropping of the clutch on 1st and 2nd...Lighten the car...Add some Drag Radials, Tire Rack has some BFG Drag Radials in 225/50/14s for $40 each...Add an MSD BTM for Ignition Retard and most important tune it on a dyno on a hot day...12's all day...Oh suspension needs to be addressed too...Stiffer in the rear...

I highly doubt that a untouched B16 with a turbo (8lbs)in a 99si could run a low 12! I used to beat 99Si's stock with my stock 90 si. 160hp vs. 108hp. That car is heavy, and the B16 isnt the best engine in the world...If he wants to beat you he must do some work on his internals. You have a better launch, and a ton more torque. If he turbos, does some internal work, and removes some of the dead weight in the civic..then..maybe he will give you a run for your money.

Edit: I highly doubt that a untouched B16 with a turbo (8lbs)in a 99si could run a low 12, w/o blowing up at the end of the track.

He would have to do a lot of work to beat you, but it could be done. It really all depends on how much money he spends on his motor, and if he tunes it right. Either way, if he beats you all you have to do is slap on 150 shot of NOS and you would be wipping the floor with him all over again.

He claims hes going to dump 28 grand into it and wipe the floor with just about everything (lots of talk, no walk ..) he currently has a 92 integra that has the hell beaten out of it. half the stuff don't work and his third gear grinds constantly, you can't even get into 5th.. but as for the civic he claims hes going to get it into the 10s.. i said good luck, your cars going to be in the shop more then your going toget to drive it.. so basically once he turbos it hes gotta get it tuned and all this suspension.. so its an endless battle, will he have to beef up the transmission at all?

28 grand is more than enough to get you into the 10s.

Dude, your friend sounds like an IDIOT and a RICER. To beat you he will have to spend some money on a good turbo setup and do serious tuning. Sounds like he will turbo his motor and blow it up within a week..

28 grand + 99Si (14 grand) = Used NSX for me!

For him to run 10's its going to take alot of time and money. He should be happy if he gets into the 12s, but if he has it then he might get there. To me its not worth it.

BAWHAHAHA. Dont sweat his ***... and if he does start even thinking of catching you, like the other guy said... throw a 150 show and own his ***.

To stupid kids who think they can just dump money into a car and it be fast.

EDIT: Its 5Zigen not 5Zigum by the way

about the zigen. i don't claim to know anything about imports just what i manage to scavenge over at ls1.com, but he was talking about how good their wheels are and how the muffler is the best thing out there.. i don't know, and to clarify.. hes not my friend , yah i figure a 100shot would put me into deep 11s with traction..and thats being hopeful

LS1.com? If you want to know about Honda's ask questions here. A lot of people at LS1.com have limited knowledge about Honda's.
