Default New 99 Civic SI, good first things to do.

Hi there, I am going to get a 99 Civic SI in the next day or so and was wondering what some good easy upgrades I can do to start out are. It already has a new air filter and tires. I am a bit new to Hondas and want to get my feet wet a bit by upgrading some moderatly easy things.

Thanks a lot

I would perform a compression test and general maintainence before you get started, see if the motor is suffering, every Si around here is beat to ****, sounds like it and smokes like it too, and to my suprise, mine is the only B16 around here that doesn't burn oil. My motor scored 242-240-243-240 with 5 compression strokes with 65,000 miles on it, its a 1992 B16A

Spend some time and make sure everything is in good shape.

Is that how you protect your car? with a metal boot? AWESOME!

yeah man dont get no 20 dollar walmart beep beep one either... think about it in the long run, spend 10 gs on ur car n have shitty alarm, ur out 10 gs an ur ride... spend enough to get a good reputated alarm like viper, lojac, and a bunch of other ones, way better chance u still have ur car... even quick released civics have been stolen so dont think that its not impossible... just do some brand searching and you'll see... plan on spendin at least 150 bucks though... the shitty thing is for ur certain car, the more stock it is the more common it is to be stolen....

if you go down to your local marine parts store you should be able to find yourself an easy to conceal under your dash battery saver (complete electrical cutoff switch) have it set up to cut everything except your alarm brain and horns. if you have an aftermarket stereo have your constant 12 memory direct as well. just to be safe get a gps mounted in a front pillar.

first of all grats on your si

anyways like a post before me said. get a compression test and do some general maintenence. and like every post after that said, make sure you security is tight. alarms, killswitches..etc

as far as power goes, a thing you can do to free up a little bit of horsepower is to put on a new intake, header and exhaust system. get an AEM cai, or short ram w/e you want, or you can buy one from ebay and throw a good filter on there. also get a good header 4-1, 4-2-1, w/e you want. then maybe a good catback exhaust, that should help a little.

definitely listhen to everything said previously said. ive had my 99si since aug06, and three times my viper alarm has saved my baby from becoming another statistic. once that is taken care of you might want to check out some moderate suspension mods. the b16 leaves something to be desired in my opinion, i call it the tourqe less wonder. unless you plan on serious engine rebuild or a swap id leave it alone and spend your money on suspension and enjoy the twisties. just my opinion but definitely a great car

Congrats on a great car!!!

I own a 2000 Si and mine is bone stock - only gets new OEM parts when need be - for example I went to Honda to buy wiper blades.

First thing before you get the car - go to the cosmetic/appearance and check out all the EM1's and see what type of car you want to build.

Set up a game plan as to what you envision your car to be - what you want to concentrate on and then price it all out.

Then when you get the car - get security. We cannot stress this enough - the 99 Civic Si is the 2nd most stolen car in the U.S. - the 2000 Civic Si is 1st. This is a proven insurance company statistic.

I have my Si in a garage that has 2 other cars blocking the door and a German Shepherd in the house.

Like everyone has stated, check to see the condition of the motor, 1) security 2)suspension 3)boost if engine is fine 4) wheels blah blah. It's up to you, but def. Security First
