5w30 vs 10w30 : HP difference?
wow, i didn't know motor oil added hp. Hey B2, maybe you should add 10 quarts for more power
.
Does synthetic add more power over regular?

Being that both are a 30weight when warm, there should be no difference.
However, the bigger point spread you have, the more your oil will break down.
So for the poor people running 0w30, after 3000 miles or so they're probably running the equilalant of a 0w15! And yes, running a 15 weight will show more hp. (also kill your engine)

I am running the 5w30 Honda oil and felt no differences. I will be going back to 10w30 today or tomorrow. I didn't think there would be a difference but the mech asked me to try it out so i did.
.25hp.03ft lbs of torque? How about adding water. Come on peeps different oil is not going to do anything.
Just change the chyt ever 2500-3000 miles.

the purpose of the rated motor oils is for certain temperatures and conditions.
5W-20 & 5W30: Your best oil investment if you live in cold winter areas like the northern Midwest and Rocky Mountain states. Your engine will start easier, perform better, and last longer. The oil is also compatible with warmer climates and summer temperatures and makes an excellent year around oil. Use 5W-20 where summer temps are moderate.
10W30: The overall best choice oil for most US climates. The oil will provide cold temperature starting and excellent high temperature engine protection. The lowest range oil also has a minimum of thickening additives which means there is more lubricating ability in this oil than in higher weight range oils.
10W40: This is the preferred oil of many drivers on the west and east coasts. The wide weight range means excellent cold starting ability in mountain areas and outstanding engine protection in the hotest weather. This is an excellent oil for all weather applications.
15W50 & 20W50: When the coldest temperatures in your area are not lower than 10-20 degrees F., you may find these oils to be your best year around choice. They are also best for air-cooled engines because they generally run hoter than water-cooled engines. If you live in a colder climate and especially if you do a lot of short distance driving where your engine's oil never really gets hot, you'll probably want to use a 5W-30 or a 10W-30 oil instead.

I'll take the Pepsi Challenge with Redline vs. Mobil1 vs. "you pick it" on a dyno.
I'll donate the Redline (10W30) - anyone wanna pony up for the other oils and dyno time?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't Honda recommend 5w30 for integras. What I dont understand is that if the people who designed the engine say that 5w30 is recommended, why would anyone differ from their suggestions. I would at least think there should be a different weight of oil used for the R over the other integras, but I think the recommended weight stayed the same.....did it not?
So, in the Texas heat should I be using 10w30 instead of the recommended 5w30?

why they recommend 5w30 is cuz it has great cold and hot performance. a "5" rating is probably good for 30 degrees below zero, if not more... and the "30" rating is probably good for 120 degrees F.
The only reason you would need to use anything like a 10w40 or 15w50 is if you run at very high speed (120+) for long periods of time. You don't need a 10w unless you live in a cold climate. 5w30 is fine for anyone in the US who doesn't live where it gets really cold. Exceptions may be Maine, Alaska, North Dakota, Michigan, etc....

so are you saying going down the freeway at 140+ mph is bad for my car since I only run 10w30???
