Ok guys, so my 4th gear is giving me trouble (97 GSR tranny). If I downshift from 5th it doesnt wanna go in, also when I want to go in 4th from neutral it doesnt wanna go in either.. Under normal driving conditions i can get from 3rd to 4th just fine, no grinding etc... I dont know if this could in fact the syncro going bad, or bent teeth... When i put it in 3rd in neutral and try to go into 4th it sometimes will go, and sometimes it has to be forced..I dont really know where to start with this

btw - I havent changed out the tranny fluid yet, nor have i disassembled anything. Its just the 1 gear so I didnt wanna go overboard yet.

how long has it been since tranny fluid was changed?

i have the same problem when shiftin from 2nd to 3rd. it'll grind a little bit.

but i havnt changed my fluid since i got it 3 yrs ago

Really... a year. Turned out i had a slow leak. The reverse switch was leaking at the bottom.. How the hell i still even had fluid a year later is something else again, but when we drained i i would say a quart if not less came out. So yeah i was definately low, and im sure thats what the contributing factor was.

btw, run Honda MTF. Feels so much better running through the gears. I threw a couple in my new tranny and shifting feels so much easier.

damn leaks are the ENEMY!!! lol
