Battery Question, Grinding Noise Question
Hello,
I have a 2002 Honda Accord v6.
Sometimes when trying to start the car a "grinding" noise is heard. Dealership service says no problem found. I also had the battery tested, they say it's okay.
Does anyone else have this problem? It doesn't occur always, just rarely. I am worried one day it just won't start though.
Also, about batteries, how long does a battery usually last on an 02 Accord? The battery has a 84 month pro rate warranty, but I doubt it'll last seven years.
After how many years is wise to replace it?
Thanks.

City of Angels? Seven years isn't uncommon for the demands you'd be putting on it.
Now, if you were in (say) Oregon or Washington State where you'd be dealing with Winter issues, I'd start getting suspicious around six (6).
The grinding noise is a little more problamatic - not having heard it but...
If you bought this car used (off lease, etc) and you don't know the vehicle history, it is possible you have a condition where the previous owner may have tryed starting it while it was already running.
You may have a partially damaged ring gear - that part of the flywheel / Torque Converter to which the Starter Bendix Drive engages to turn over the engine, Any tech worth his salt will recognize it (IF he hears it). But in your case the Ring Gear may have to be visually inspected. - (only some of the teeth may be damaged)
