Default Vtec crossover at 6K rpm?

I am new to the dual cam scene and was wondering....I have a stock b18c and my vtec crossover can be heard at 6K rpm.Should'nt vtec operate at an earlier rpm? I spoke to a friend about it today and he says somethings wrong. All of my knowledge is with the sohc's where vtec can't even be heard at all.

I'm assuming you have a GSR b18c1 correct? If so, are you still using the stock intake manifold? which ecu are you running? If everything is stock, then what you're hearing is the IABS in the stock intake manifold (dual butterflies are opening up around 5700-6k RPM). On the stock p72 GSR ecu, vtec x over is set at 4400 rpm from factory. Hope this helps a little

then the noise that you're hearing is the secondary butterflies opening up.....vtec is actually at 4400 rpm but you can't hear it.

This is such a common misconception, it should have it's own FAQ thread.
