Default Handed over a B16a CRX (need Ref info n help)

So after 5 yrs of staring at a garaged 89 crx si with a jdm b16a, my brother finally handed over the keys to me! Since then i have been scrolling the site and the FAQ threads and found out that i have a 1st gen. obd0 b16a with a pr3 ecu. I cant quite legally drive it since i live Cali and was wondering a couple things about how i can legalize it to get it back on the road. I was hoping a couple of you guys could help me out with my questions or provide me with a link to look up myself with the following:

-whether or not you need a reciept for a jdm engine to take to the state ref to confirm the engine is legit?
-if i would have to convert from obd0 to obd1?
-and why the heck my engine pur's like a cat when warmed up, kinda like fluctuating up and down?

Any and all help is appreciated, thanx in advance!

Well good news is you don't have to convert from OBD0 to OBD1

You my friend, have no idea what you're talking about...

To get it BARRED in California, YOU DO.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by Dc4iNtEgRa &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">What I had to do to pass...

USDM DelSol OBD-1 P30-A00 ECU.

ECU jumper harness *Depending on REF, Some don't like them.*

OBD-1 Dizzy *B16 or GSR*

Dizzy jumper for obd-0 to obd-1.

OBD-1 Throttle body. * I passed with a GSR, But the nipple for the Charchol canister bent to the left instead of bending straight up. Needs MAP sensor*

4-Wire 02 sensor in the Exhaust manifold.

Exhaust manifold for a OBD-1 DOHC VTEC motor, if it's aftermarket, make sure the CARB #'s match a DelSol DOHC VTEC, and has the bung for the 02 sensor.

CARB Legal Skunk2 Intake Manifold, or stock DelSol VTEC manifold.

EVAP purge control solenoid. From 92-95 civic/delsol.

OBD-1 Thermostat housing w/ temp sensor *Again depending on REF* Installed on my engine when I passed.

Electric VSS *Again depending on REF* Had the stock cable VSS, and I passed...

DATA LINK CONNECTOR *Again depending on REF* Did not have this, and I still passed...

AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST....

A GOOD CAT, I used a 00 Civic SI cat, and used a bung plug from my STI downpipe for a wide band 02 sensor.( because obd-2 cars have 2 02 sensors)

I hope this helps,

Alex

No not really its not to bad.. Just run the obo1 dizzy, four wire o2 in correct location, usdm p30 plus jumper, charcoal canister, pcv system, make sure harness looks stock (no loose or dead wires), either factory intake arm and box and exhaust manifold or CARB approved equivalents for the b16 del sol. Have timing set at 18 degrees +-2 and have a good cat. Then go to the ref and see what happens. Either you pass both visual and sniffer or you fail but the ref will tell you everything he expects to see for you to pass next time.

Where in CA are you located?

very tru. i think they only hard part your gonna have locating is the P30 ecu. depending on where your located some referees are very helpful. im in sac area and the one i went to when i bar'ed my LS in my 90 crx the guy was very helpful. when i failed he handed me wiring diagrams and a phat list of ECU's that are acceptable for reffing a LS in my car. if your local pm me and ill let you know his name and which ref shop he is at.

but like stated above convert to obd1. DO IT RIGHT, and you shouldn't have any problems.

Im usually in two spots: The Bay Area and the Sacramento area

So i was still wondering if i need any papers for the engine, cause i also read that you need an engine newer than your car...
