I just want to ask because I did a search in recent and archived topics and didnt find anything to answer my question. I just ordered my "Civic Type R" transmission from Hmotorsonline and steve was a great guy to talk to! I just want to know how will I be able to tell that the S4C tranny is from a CTR and not a b16 equipped with optional LSD.

Obviously there is going to be an LSD with nothing blocking through the hole, but how will I know it has the Dual Synchros of the CTR tranny ? Is there any special stamping on the shell to indicate it was from a CTR ?

i have the same problem. i just bout one and it sais s4c and it stamped with LSD. i also ask the same question how to tell the difference form a CTR and a JDM SiR

 

I dont think there is one to tell you the truth without taking the casing apart and checking for the dual syncro's .However Hmotorsonline has a pretty good name for being reputable, but i understand your need to make sure when dropping a good amount of $$$ not all of us are ballers and dont want to get ripped off.

If your really that worried about it pop off the lid and check. If your not familiar with transmissions i dont advise it unless your really that worried about it.

 

case isnt that hard to pop off... just do it if youre worried...

I would say CTR trannys are pretty damn rare

 

they really aren't. jdm importers have quite a few. every s4c lsd stamp i have seen was from a ctr.

 

when the CTR are stamped with LSD what else does it say by it. my S4C says R4 LSD. Is that CTR or jdm sir?

jdm sir-g would use the gsr cogset, you should be able to tell by mph, actually the sir-g is a s80 come to think of it

 

Bringing this back up. Mines an s4c and all thats stamped on the case is s4. Idk if the rest of the stamp got worn off over time or what. Whats the difference between r4 and s4 stamps?

 

Just to contribute, i know OP's post is very old.

If its a S4C from an EK9/CTR. LSD would only be Helical - 10bolt ring gear.
If its non EK9/CTR. Optional Viscous LSD - 15 bolt ring gear.

Someone, correct me if my info are wrong.
