Timing belt tension
I have a 98 Prelude I just head my head ported and polished, and got some new camshafts. I can't get the timing belt to loosen. I've turned the bolt with the pin 10mm and the 14 mm bolt, supposebly the adjustment bolt. The belt won't loosen. What do I have to do to get the belt to loosen so I can get it on my cam gears?
loosen the tensioner bolt (14mm) and turn the crankshart i belive its counter clockwise. yea it is. that should make it loose. or at least on h23 thats how it works. and all other hondas ive done timing belts on. hope this helps ya
I have the 14 mm lose and turned it clockwise and counter clockwise, I never got any slack. How much do you have to turn it so it loosens up?
you're going to have to take out the auto tensioner and compress it with the stopper part# 14540-P13-003 what you do is take off the 8mm head screw of the auto tensioner and turn the screw clockwise to once you can slide the stopper then screw the bolt make sure you don't spill any oil inside if you do add a few drops of motor oil.
The belt won't loosen.
I don't know much about Honda engines, but the cambelt on a DOHC Mazda engine I replaced the other day was very tight, even when it was loosened as much as possible.
What you could try is unbolting the tensioner altogether and take it out for a while.
In order to get the auto tensioner out, I'm going to have to pull of the crankshaft pulley right? Damn this thing going to qanger me!
Yea you would need to take out the crankshaft pulley. Thats what you should have done, if you want it done correclty. Don't take the quick way out and just pull your timing belt out and making sure your timing didn't change. Take the extra time and make sure you engine does not go bye bye.
