Default Noobie here

Whats going on DC5 guys. I'm getting my first car in March next year, and what better to start off with than a honda (well, Acura in North Americas case ). Anyway, I am choosing between the 2nd gen type r and the 1st gen DC5. So, here are some general questions that I need to have answered:

1. For a daily driver, how would you rate this car with minnor modifications?

2. How is the overall handling with this car? Can this car be prepped for the track easily?

3. How would you guys rate the performance out of the box? What areas need to be improved to make this a track car that will keep up with S2000's or E36 M3's?

4. What is the regular servicing price on these cars at your Acura dealership? Are these cars as reliable as the 90's Civics?

5. Obviously these cars aren't M3's or Supras, so what starting mods have you done to make good horsepower and torque gains while keeping the car reliable for daily driving?

6. Does anyone want to hook me up with some Volk CE's? (JK )

Your help will help me alot, so post away guys.

Thanks

p.s. Does anyone know who's white DC5 that is on this page? What front bumper is on it? https://honda-tech.com/zero...e=272

2nd gen Type R? What are you talking about?

And if you're only 15 or 16, then the last thing you need to worry about is making the car fast. Why not save the cash and take some performance driving classes before you go trying to out-corner an S2000.

Not trying to bring you down, but even a stock RSX-S has 200hp, and that's more than enough to get someone into trouble in a hurry.

And any Integra/RSX is going to be a huge insurance payment for a 16 year old.

From 2nd gen Type R, I ment the body style, not what version. You had your 90-93 Integra and your 94-01 Integra right? Yeah, I turn 17 next year and all but I'm just trying to make an enjoyable car I can track on the weekends while drive daily to school and what not. I've taken performance driving classes with a BMW program ( my dad loves them) driving an 88 E30 M3 and later moving up to the E60 M5, which I drive to school sometimes. I've been to autocrosses with the M3 alot, and as far as I can tell, its faster than the DC5. I'm not trying to say I can control this and that, but what I am saying is that I am not one of the guys who drives irresponcibly on the public roads. So, do you have any other comments that might help me?

apparently his dad has a e60 m5...so i don't think money is really an issue for him.

What's even more sad is that his post for the most part is written well. At 16, he seems to be more intelligent than most of GDD.

There are answers to most of your questions in the FAQ at the top of the topic's list page. Read through that and ask more specific questions if you have any.

that's a mugen front bumper.

G1: 86-89
G2: 90-93
G3: 94-01
G4 (aka RSX): 02-06

I wouldn't get a Type R unless you want to get it stolen or can park it in a garage 24/7. That's not a great car for a teenager. You can't park it at the mall, or even in front of your house. Someone will more than likely swipe it. Search for 'stolen' in the ITR forum if you don't believe me.

And again, insurance will kill you on either one of these cars because of your age. Call and get a quote first.

yea, for a 17 year old, this is impossible without parents help or using your college fund. Unless your good at dealing. But really, sounds like a kid that wants to show off his parents money to his friends and street race. No 17 year old kid should be driving a 200hp+ car in the first place, thats just asking for trouble. As for a first car, Rsx = spoiled. I learned on an Ae86 myself and it was a great first car. **** though, if the kids parents are stupid enough to buy him an rsx let them.

did you even read OP's posts? He has actually taken racing classes and autocrossed in his dad's car. seems like more of a hobby between his dad and him.

I don't know the OP, but he doesn't seem like someone I would be able to generalize as a typical teenager that comes on HT asking random questions. If he is dumb enough to go out and street face, then well, that's on him. people will street race regardless of what they're driving. a car that actually goes some what fast is obviously more dangerous, but from what he has said, he seems to be fairly responsible with his driving and let's hope it stays that way before he ends up being another statistic of deaths caused because of street racing.

First of all he didn't mention he has taken racing classes... he said he took performance driving programmed offered by BMW... that is nowhere near what you learn from racing classes... I have done my racing license at Jim Russel and you can't even compare to what you do in the BMW performance driving program and not that I am saying it sucks it is very educational from driving on the street but not on a track!!!

My suggestion is go to a racing school and learn to drive on a track and then worry about a car... Also when I started out one of the veterans told me this one line that has stuck to me and I always pass it on to newbies... learn to drive a slow car fast around a track before driving a fast car fast around a track because you'll notice alot of slow cars passing you along the way!!!

Yeah, I know. If I buy a family friends 04 RSX, I can get a hell of a deal and still have about $7000 left over to spend.

LOL. My dads not putting any money into the equation ( well, exept for insurance). But thanks for commending me on my intelegence. I've always been taught to be humble. Also thanks for the faq info and the hint on the bumper

and It's not impossible because I'm doing it without mommy and daddys help and I'm not using a college fund because I've never had one. I don't want to show off anyones money, the last thing I'd want to do. I'm just a teenager that has had a passion for cars since, well, I got my first Hot Wheel set. I never said anything about streetracing, although I like to responcibly drive the M5 fast. Not to brag, but I've driven my dad and grandfathers cars. 87 Buick Grand National ( if you don't know what they're capable of, you don't want to get caught at the light by one, even Kenne Bell Cobras don't mess with these), E60 M5, E30 M3, need I say more. I'm very smart with driving, so I don't think a 200 hp RSX would be trouble, because this would be mostly for tracking and daily driving. BTW, my parents have aren't idiots and they know the how teens are. But, I've been responcible with the other cars, so theirs a trust bond we have. Don't get mad with me because I've earned all my money by planning wisely and working hard.

Yeah, I didn't go to an actual racing school, you are totally right. The BMW course I took showed owners how to control their cars in wet and dry conditions when you are driving over the average speed. Lots of techniques of how to gain control of your car at high speeds if you lose traction or if the rear end got slippery. I've participated in autox events in Atlanta with track instructors directing me the first few times. The E30 is a slow car, but you don't have to slow down in certain turns because of the balance of the car. But, I want to gain more experiance on the track with a car like this or a STI.

If you end up buying the RSX and want to make it handle, look in the FAQ at the suspension threads and follow them to the T.

Most of the stuff on the internet on how to make the RSX handle is 80% crap and bullsh!t. The rest is marginal, and a small percentage is right on. I FAQ'd the threads that are right on because I became tired of repeating myself.

As for dumping $7K into it, why don't you focus on making it handle first. That won't take up $7K in budget. The car is decently fast with a few small and cheap bolt-ons. Then save the rest of the money for college. Honestly, it's foolish to drop that much on a car when you're that age, or unless you're filthy rich. But if you were that rich, you wouldn't be buying an RSX.

I say go for it, man. The RSX is a well-rounded car for street/track use. Like Todd said, suspension is key. What's a monster that cant handle, right?
You don't need extensive racing classes to have fun on the track... that's for sure. You seem like your on the right track. And humble enough to ask for advise.

Hey acurate, that is near white plains in NY. My dad did lots of buisness in New York and Jersey from 2003 to 2007, so we just relocated back to Atlanta in May of this year.

To Todd00, let me thank you for clarifying the BS about the handling. But like I said earlier, its my money, not my parents. And yeah, just because I have money, you expect me to drive a BMW or something?

To JDM_ h22, thanks for the modivation. Either this or a STI will do me good. I commend you on your thoughts

HondaKyle

LOL... I'm no clown, and I definately don't BS. Yeah, the first and second vids are from diffrent accounts, but do you know why? The donuts were from a family friends account because I didn't record it, he had his camera at the time. The driving with the cam inside of the car is my account. I haven't put anything on there for a while, so I'll post some vids when I'm not busy with school or working. Oh, and if we have a Honda meet in the ATL this year, I will happily bring the M for anyone on the forum to see

To answer your original question... lol Get the type s, then order K-Pro ecu and I/RH/E. Search HT for details on each. Once you have everything on and feel the difference, come back to HT and ask about further mods. Alot of people are running in the 13's with just these mods. Plus your only looking at 2-3k to spend on these mods. Comptech Supercharger doesnt look bad ;-P

Thanks for that info, but I don't think I would supercharge it. Higher compression= more wrench time.
