i got a 95 ex coupe and i am startin to mod it out, I was wondering if anyone could help me out on choosing and intake or tell me the advantages of cold air over short ram. I was thinkin about getting the aem short ram and 5zigen fireball catback in a couple weeks. Is there any reason i should go with the aem or maybe a generic brand and save money?

 

newbie. First use the search funtion. Second, cold air intake is better for the colder the air the more dense resulting in more horsepower. AEM is proven to be the best out there. If you want sub par then get the generic intake but remember you get what you pay for.

newbie... AEM is NOT the best out there. Check the ITR forum. There are many other intake systems that are more effective such as the Comptech IceBox.

Build your own. JC Whitney for the bends, buy some radiator hose at a truck stop for your seals, get some clamps at the hardware store, buy a K and N or an Apex i filter, then use a hacksaw to get everything to fit. Half the price of the other intakes and just as much horsepower. For B series, recommend 2-3/4 or 3 inch piping. For D series 2-1/4 to 2-1/2. Or just use what fits your OD on your throttle body. Go to teamdelsol.com, find the how-tos then look up the slater-take. Best bang for your buck.

whats all this newbie crap, just cause i'm new to this forum doesnt mean i am a moron. I was just wondering if there is a big enough difference between the aem, comptech, injen, and all the other expensive ones compared to the cheap ones to make it worth the money difference. thanks for all the input though

Yes there is. But, if you could save money and get same results, wouldn't you?

 

if you want to squeeze in as much hp as possible, then brand does matter.

 

correct me if I am wrong, but the last time I checked comptech did not make an icebox intake for the 95 civic coupe. A ram air intake they made only (i think)

An Icebox will fit in an EG chassis, however the intake pipe is too big for the stock TB on a D-series. Icebox in my car (EG2):



It doesn't fit perfectly, but it's not a huge deal. I have a post detailing the problems if you'd like to see it.
