Default correct ECM for Y8

what is the correct ECM for a 98 civic EX with a Y8 in it. My car currently has a Y7 in it with a P2P ECM. will that work with a Y8.
I can't find any cut or spliced wires to show where anything has been changed, except for there is one piece that is not hooked up to anything an is just laying nest to the dizzy. it appears to be the Vtec silnoid but I'm not 100% sure on that.

I think the Y7 ECU is P2E, whereas the Y8 ECU is P2P. The ECU also needs to match with the transmission.

I meant the ECU is made for either a manual or automatic transmission.

are there any differences in the auto tranny motors and the manual tranny motors?? or is that just to compensate for idle when in gear, for an auto or does it also control the shift points? The car is an auto.. and I'm trying to find a motor but its very difficult to find a Y8 from an auto.

doesn't matter what tranny it's attached to, the engine is the same.

The Y8 has shorter gearing. Also you need a P2P out of a 5sp car. I just sold one for 20 bucks, so you should be able to get them for cheap.

Why would you tell the OP to get a manual ECU when he specifically pointed out that his car is a manual? I don't know about 6th gens, but all 5th gen automatic transmissions are the same, even the EX, the manuals are different depending on the trim level. To the OP, the engine block and head are the same between the automatic and manual versions, the only difference is automatic Y8s have a different intake manifold and throttlebody which you will need. Y7s are all the same, its just Y8s that have 2 different versions. To make everything easy, get a '96 -'98 D16Y8 from an automatic EX, or a D16Y8 from a manual EX and swap the intake manifold and throttle body for the automatic version.
