Default Thinking about boosting my CRX..

Hey, I know alot of people on honda-tech have boosted their EF.. As some of you already know i have a Jdm Crx.. I've been doing some research on builds etc etc. But i'd like to get some feedback from some of you guys with experience. I've been lookin at kits off of ebay, yes i said ebay.. now as i said this is just a thought, in the future i will be prepared.. pistons, cams, crank.

I was just viewin a couple of these kits:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...53220

Any advice you guys have for me is appreciated! Should i go this way or not? What PSI is it actually safe to run my car at if its boosted (stock internals), and problems you've ran into along the way.

i can tell from the pictures that the parts are made of **** materials. also, the piping isnt going to fit, so why even mess with those.

IF you had a half decent car that you really didnt care much about,

AND you where planning on replacing or completely rebuilding your motor in the next 6 months,

AND you have a grand to throw away on something fun and silly

AND you can do all the work yourself, including cutting and welding and bending pipe

then its a great idea go for it

Honestly, it is kind of a known fact that those kits are garbage. Like Davidu said, the only way I would personally touch one is if was I was just messing around and trying to see what they are capable of, or didn't care too much about the car. BUT, if the car is something you want to have quality/reliable parts in, do ot waste your money.

I have turbod crx. stock ls bottom with b16 head. t3/60-1 70 trim. All I got to say is that if i could do it again it wouldnt be a ef. Lots of work making **** fit. But when its done man. I got mine tuned yesterday and it hangs with a 600 RR. But its also not a ebay kit

Well, I've unfortunately had alot of contact with these kits. I tune alot of cars locally, and I'm no stranger to working with cars that have this stuff.

From what I've experienced is more often than not, the kit will bite you in some way. Whether it be mani failure, turbo failure, or wastegate/bov issues. I've tuned several cars successfully though, with the ebay stuff, and they were all cxracing turbo's with cast mani's. Don't know if cxracing has some factors in play that makes their stuff a little better or not...just have never seen it fail.

The problem with getting this stuff, is the cost is the lure. The problem is you buy the stuff, say you get it in for 900.00. You pay to get it tuned, and the tune can't be finished because of some issue. So, you lose some time, resolve the issue and incur some cost. You then repay to have it tuned and maybe get it finished, or something goes wrong.

The trend will become fixing, retuning, repairing, and a whole lot of down time. It'll take the wind out of you, and it'll beat you down.

A MUCH better route, is to buy quality used components. You may spend ever so slightly more, but the reliability and pride factor will be more than worth it.

You know well that the kits you posted are no good, your just looking for some small reassurance, and your not gonna get it. You get what you pay for will always hold true....so move forward at your own risk. In the end you'll spend double and drive your car half as much, I can promise you.

Thanks for all the feedback guys!

And yes, my whole idea was to pick up a cheap crx/ef civic and boost it, I just want experience in the whole area.
