Whats wrong with AEM 3 bolt cam gear?

Default Whats wrong with AEM 3 bolt cam gear?

every time i see pepole avoiding using them?

is there a reason?

3 bolts vs 5 or 6 bolts...... I ran the AEM "Tru-Slips" for years and never had an issue, but they are a huge liability IMO due to them slipping on other peoples cars.

same here, i have installed many sets, no issues, had a set myself(stockers now) no issues.

kinda depends on the cam/valve spring combo also.

I have a set on now. I locktited the bolts because of this problem. I didnt know there was an actual recall on them though. Can I still send them back for new gears ? Im guessing its way too late.

i had one break the woodruff (sp) key slot. tore the cam gear up like a tin can

Ran them on my prelude many years ago and did not have a problem... but running Bisimoto gear on meh big block sohc now, which is a 3 bolt however there is absolutely no chance of slipping it (interlocking teeth ftw).

im running some right now, no problems,

they come with wierd allen key bolts, these are junk and cant be torqued down very well,

i replaced all 3 with actual bolts of the same size, so i could tighten em down like a bitch,

and its working good for me so far.

My friend blew his fully built boosted ls/vtec all bc of the AEM cam gears slipped ...
