Default Stolen Element cats

no real point to this thread but if you got an element you might be easy pray for getting your cat jacked. i work at a honda dealer in northern cali and we just had three elements in for there pdi's and all three had there cats and o2 sensor jacked! retail prices on all these are right @ about $1600 per car. just letting you guys who own hondas tall enough to crawl under know.

Common for import cars/trucks

Reason why? GOLD.

Inside are small amounts of platinum and gold if smelted correctly, larger cats get more money, and imports make more than domestics. Shitty economy = more crimes.

For a while they were targeting Tacomas. No real way around this though. If they want, they're going to steal it. Be it from you, your neighbors, or the parking lot.

Not if you remove the factory flanges from the OEM cat and weld it back in place.

lol! They aren't unbolting them, they are taking a plasma cutter and taking 14 seconds and cutting it off. I know, my buddys in his Toyota Tacoma was cut off right infront of work in broad day light in view of everything.

I know some will be unbolted, but with the majority of them, they will be cut. Becasue it's risky and they want to be out of there fast, and most people know exhuast bolts are a bitch to get off without impact.

Wow that is unbelievable. I guess that is what happens in this distressed economy.

Yep they're being stolen from any vehicle with ground clearance. My Jeep is in the garage, and the weapon of choice is by my bed. If they want to steal the cat from my cr-v they can have it

That's it. I'm welding up a cage around my exhaust system.

After the $500 deductible....probably not worth it. Just replace the cat with a carsound or magnaflow one.

The cat by itself it sold for about $1,200 and that's if the thieves are nice and just unbolt it. It's much more if they hack off the B pipe too.

still not worth doing the OEM thing with the insurance folks.
You can get an aftermarket cat for about $75.
