I have an OBD0 B16 now (with some very loud LMAs) and I was looking into the full XSI swap from hmotorsonline.com. What production years had the inferior LMA designs?

From my experience the older the B16A, the more likely to have noiser LMAs.

Mostly the pre-OBD B16a engines are the only ones I've seen noisy LMAs on. I've never seen an OBD1 version with noisy LMAs, but admittedly I don't see a lot of swaps/hybrids any more here at the shop like I used to.

I don't know if Honda updated the LMAs after the 1992 year model, or if it is literally due to older age.

I do know that there is an actual difference in ITR LMAs though. different part number, etc. from all the other ones.

Looks like a much wider 'tap' pad fwiw. Well the XSI swap I BELIEVE is a OBD0 set up, as it comes with a PR3 ecu? I'm not good with the OBD and which ecus are which, so please bear with me

pr3 = obd0.

From pulling all 3 gens of head apart you would be right I am pretty sure the larger "tap" pad seems to be part of it, but even on itr LMAs they seem to howl with a larger cam, but that's another issue.

Well now i'm on the fence if i'm looking at pulling the head off a new motor to get a quiet set of lmas (either ITRs or the new spring-type just released), thats an issue.

And I don't want to spend another $600 on a more current b16 (especially cause I'm hunting for the YS1 thats hung off the back of the XSI swap)

Also, I thought there was a difference in the head if it came with the large DOHC emblem vc instead of the large VTEC emblem vc??

Well there were also OBD1 Integra XS-i (DA) that were OBD1, but still had a cable tranny.

Easiest way I can think to tell is look at the distributor - grey plugs = OBD1; milky clearish/white plugs = pre OBD/OBD0.

If the swap has a YS1 I'm lead to believe it's not a OBD0 since the YS1 was the later cable tranny. A pre-OBD version would usually have a Y1/J1/S1.
