My car is slammed about a half inch of the ground. and i have dc sport header. well i was reversing in a gas station and a big patch that came up 2 inch off the flat ground grabbed the bottom of my headers and ripped the 5 bottom bolts holding the header to the head directly out. now theirs only the top 5 bolts holding the header and im like running open head it is LOUD!!!!!!!! i took a look at it the threads are [freak]ed in the head. what would i do about repairing these threads?

 

dam mechanic said 75 to 100 dollars PER thread! [freak] that i wanna do it myself. just dont know where to start. and i think running my car the way it is is bad for the valves all the exhaust is comming out da head.

 

Get a stud remover and change the studs out.

 

i think the bump did the stud removers job. the studs are out i only have one that was hanging their. and i took it out and it wouldn't screw back into any of the other holes. and its threads were good.

 

So! Does anybody know what to do in my case? i really! need this done sooon!!! plzzz.

when i took that stud out it has aluminum shavings on it, i took the shavings off the stud and the stud had perfect threads on it both side. 2 of my studs are missing and 3 nuts are missing. they must be at that gas station but ill buy new ones.

 

i dont know what to say but is that what happens when you slam your car? cuz if it is my car will never be slammed.

 

well you just gotta drive extra carefull and watch every little thing in the road. i think the only reason mine did this is cuz its extreamly low. i slammed it all the way down. and i got dc sport header and their a bit bigger than stock so its closer to the ground. so thats what scrapes.

all you see is the header is lifted up a little bit and their is no bottom bolts on the header. all im trying to find out is how the hell do i replace those threads or somthin, i mean ****. this car is extreamly loud and its a brand new motor i dont wanna [freak] my valves up.


could i buy new studs and jb weld them into the head? or maybe weld them to the head? anything will help !!

 

take the head to a machinist and have them install a timesert or whatever

 

I just put this motor in 3 weeks ago brand new. I don't wanna take the dam head off. theirs plenty of room to work with. i took it to a machine shop they said up to 75 dollars per bolt. thats almost 500 dollars.

 

If you're lucky, you might be able to time-sert the threads and repair them. It sounds like you're in for a world of trouble. The threads in the head are f'd, a time-sert is probably your only option. Or you could just buy a new head.

That's pretty ghetto but if he's gunna weld f--- da jb weld, just get him to weld it all in.

MY opinion would be to have it re-threaded though.
or get a new head... You'd be surprised how cheap they can be.

It's a hassle I know but unfortunately when you slam a car this crap happens.

 

YEah I found a z6 head for 60 bucks a couple weeks ago

 

yeah, just jb weld the studs in, and make sure you put some anti seize on the bolts when you reinstall them.

^^hahaha it is to... hes running that mad tyte open header so vtac can scream kiddd on that sohc motor... i say pull the motor and swap it out for sumthin better and then put an exhaust on ur car so u wont catch an open header on objects and rip it off.

How much of this short thread did you actually read?

OP, a new head can be bought for fairly cheap (sub $200 range), and will probably give you fewer headaches than half-assing it with JB Weld.

 

What motor is being used?

 

actually i read the whole thing and if i was to suggest fixing it i would say wat r u going to be doing to this motor any motor work if not then ide try to fix it but if ur planning on building it ide buy a new head and swap it for a couple hundred bux. but did u have just a header on there and it caught on sumthin or did u have a whole exhaust???
