Default d-series trans housing wont go back together after bearing/seal replacement

hey guys, i have a 91 Lx trans with ZC gears. the case is the one with the small bearings. one of my bearings took a ****, so i went through and replaced them all as well as the mainshaft seal. everything is installed properly and seated into place, the 1-2 shift spring and plug is installed, and the interlock bolt is installed, but the damn housing wont go down into place. its leaving about a 1/2-3/4 inch gap between the 2 cases and its no where near the snap ring for the countershaft yet. i can tap on the case all day and it wont budge at all. anyone whos has seen this, or knows how to fix this would be greatly appreciated.

Tapping it wont help. You need to shift it back and forth. Or in circles. There are several things that need to line up before it can slide down.
