Default general intro to spring rates/ lengths

I've got a 91' civic wagon that I picked up a little over a month ago. I'm working on doing a DA front brake upgrade right now but want to lower my car as soon as possible.

I found that there are a lot of people selling used springs, all of which are different rates and lengths.
Are there any good tech articles that can get me going in the right direction as far as picking springs to get my desired result.

I wanna drop 2.5 to 3". I'd like the car to corner well but most of all I need it to ride nice. I don't think I'll ever autox the car. But having a tight handeling car would be really nice.

Typically a longer spring has a lower rate/ shorter spring higher rate. Usually a car can be lowered about 1.5 inches with increased handling and minimal side effects. When you go more than 2" on most cars you have problems with driveability and safety. Find some good shocks first if you havent already. Koni Yellows are good if they will fit your car. Eibach and H&R make nice springs. My car (96 civic) is lowered 1.75 front and 1.5 rear, and that is the perfect height not to scrape on most obstacles for my car. Check out the estimated drop and compare that to your current ride height to see where that will put your frame, oil pan, exhaust etc. A good set of shocks, springs and a rear swaybar if you can fit one to that car will do wonders. Make sure you have good grippy tires too.

you should know that a typical Eibach Race Spring that has length and spring rate custom sized can ONLY be used with a threaded coilover perch. you cant just stick it on a stock shock.

i recommend you get a decent spring kit like eibach pro kits and good shock like tokico illuminas and call it a day.
