I've got a '98 Accord EX V6. The idle speed fluctuates between about 1100-1600 RPM every few seconds (but not all the time). This can happen when the engine is hot or cold.

The MIL (check engine) light comes on and I got an OBD II reader that says code P0505 - Idle Control System Malfuction. There is not a code present that says it's a bad IAC valve and the factory manual basically says it's either an idle adjustment (because the idle is too high, but this is not the problem) or the IAC valve.

Has anybody had this problem??

I had this problem on my 94. Removing the IAC and cleaning it helped.

 

That's usually the IAC valve.
