Default Is there a trick to disconnecting the valve/mix cables from the adjuster arm?

I am trying to get my heater controls our to service them.

How do I get the cables out of the adjuster arm?

And how do I get the unit out? The manuals make it look like it just slides out the front, but I would have to break the screw tabs on the dash to do so.

Thanks for replying but, this is a 91, different dash

I have the entire dash cover off (this contains all the vents and switches from center to driver side). I have the radio out but the control unit is still blocked

I would post pix, but I just tried to take some and the cam bat is dead. I will post some later if I havent got the answer by then

OK, pics

here is what I want to disconnect

so I can remove this

how do I unhook those cables?
if it wasnt buried in the dash I know it would be a simple 90 degree twist, but it is in the dash and there aint gonna be no twistin

while you are at it, tell me how the unit comes out of the dash after the cables are unhooked please

Disconnect the cable from the other end. It should just be a hook around the control valve. Turn your temp to all the way hot and it should give you more clearance to get it off.

well I have been trying for the past couple days
I have the cables loose on the other end but I cant get the cable unhooked from the adjuster arm, nor can I get the cable housings released from the holder

I am not sure which should come out first, should the cable unhhook before I can pull the black housing out of the holder? or should I try to release the housing before I start twisting the cable from the arm?

I have only dealt with fixing broken adjusters and do not want to break this one

How do I get the cables off the control unit

ok did it

I had to bend the cable alot with needle nose pliers to get it off the arm
then I had to wrestle the unit out with the cables still attatched and use a couple small screwdrivers to release the housings from the holder
SHEESH!!!!

still ended up breaking the dash

there has to be a trick
