need info swapping d16z6 into a d series 92-95 civic hatchcx
well im planning to either go d16z6 swap or a complete b18c1 swap
but i was wondering what do i need for the d16z6 since most of parts for a complete swap from the d16z6 is d series so i believe i need the motor, tranny.ecu?,wire harness, so i need to know what else is left to complete my swap?
thanks

You can reused your axles, wire harness, exhaust manifold and down pipe. Everything should bolt right up. You DO need to wire for VTEC. You can do this either wiring from the VTEC solenoid to the wire harness and from there to the ECU. OR you can wire it from the VTEC solenoid and straight through the firewall to the ECU. Method two is easier but not as neat.
If I can remember right 92,93 models Civics already have wires made for VTEC in their harness. So if you have one of these years you can wire it from the VTEC solenoid to the harness plug near the battery. You can search this information up to get further detailed instruction.
Things you need, the complete motor, complete as in it comes with the distributor it's suppose to come with, intake manifold, sensors, etc.
You have a choice now of either using the D16Z6's transmission or reused your original one. The D16Z6 is gear towards quicker acceleration, so using the D16Z6 transmission would give you a bit more acceleration oppose to the other transmission offer during 92-95 Civics. And last you need an ECU off a 92-95 Honda Civic EX or Si. ECU code name P28.
As for the B18C1 you need B-series exhaust manifold and down pipe. I think you can reused your original harness(But you need to wire separately for knock sensor, and VTEC, maybe one more. Forgot), axles are needed from B-series; teeth size from the transmission side of the axle is different from the D-series but the teeth on the brake rotor side should fit right up. I believe you need the motor mount for the B-series also. But to make it simple, if you buy the B18C1, buy the complete kit. You can go on google and do a quick search for stores that sell JDM motors, click on one of their "complete" kit for B18C and see what is included; those are all you will need. ECU code name P72.

'92 only all models, to the passenger's side shock tower plugs. If you have a '92 and use an EX/Si engine harness you don't have to wire anything.

so you're saying if i dont want to wire then i rather just get the wire harness out of the 92-95 si/ex right?

If you don't mind, it's easier to wire VTEC from the solenoid through your firewall into your ECU.
There would be three wires on the solenoid. Two goes to your ECU and one goes to a Ground. The two that is going to your ECU should be wire color green and blue I believe.
https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=724252&page=2
Go to that link, if it does not automatically take you to page 2, do so. On page 2 somewhere in the middle of the page there should be a picture of ECU pin-outs. You are going to wire "VTEC pressure switch" and "VTEC solenoid" Find that on the diagram and locate on your ECU and you're good to go.
Let us know if you need help.

the d16z6 came in the 92 - 95 civic so the harness should already match, except maybe the plugs for vtec. and if your car has the tranny in it that will bolt right up to the d16z6, so really i belive all you need is a engine and ecu.</TD></TR></TABLE>
not necessarily...the o2 sensor plugs are different. like the si and dx have a 4 wire o2, whereas the cx has a one wire, and a vx has a 5 wire. i put a d16z6 into my cx and its a pain in the *** to re-pin the ecu plugs. if it is a dx...just drop the motor into there and put the ecu in. if its an si...your stupid cuz it already has a d16z6. if it is a cx or vx...you have 2 options.
1.) get a jumper harness to convert your non-vtec wiring harness into a vtec wiring harness. this jumper harness also has a 4 wire o2 sensor harness built in...so its one small bundle of wires to hook up. the vtec part is easy...the o2 sensor is the pain.
2.) get an entire engine harness from a 92-95 civic ex/si and swap it out. i have heard that you have to have the enitre floor and engine harness to do this...but im not 100% sure.
hope this helps...i have done this swap twice...so i know how it goes. the swap itself is cake..the wiring is the trouble part.

Yes, but only if you have a '92, otherwise you still need to run 2 wires from the shocktower plug back to the ECU.

the car is a 92 cx, and the motor came from a 95 ex i think and its a si tranny.

check your codes...but its prolly your o2 sensor plugs...a d16z6 needs a 4 wire o2 whereas a cx chassis only has a one wire o2. you will need to get a sub-harness to fix it if this is the problem.
I been reading and seeing that some people are getting only 1 wire in CX model Civics. I have a 1994 Civic CX. The original harness has the 4 wire green, white, and black for the O2 sensor.
Just thought this might help someone someday.

i need help..i have a 94 civic dx 4dr and im swapping the stock d15b7 with a built d16z6
only problem is the vtec solenoid is not hooked up to the computer
i got three bare wires coming out of the vtec solenoid
anyone knows which wire goes where and how do i hook em up?

That probably has to do with it being a california emissions vehicle. Canadian CXs are also 4 wire, but this has to do with them coming stock with the D15B7. Also note that '93 - '95 CA emissions VXs used a regular 4 wire O2 sensor unlike the '92 - '95 federal emissions version, and '92 CA version which used a 5 wire wideband O2.
