Default Extended Service Plan

I just purchased a 2009 coupe along with a 5yr service plan. I have second thoughts on the plan. Considering that Honda's do not break and I've never had one for any other vehicle I owned, I think I'll drop the plan.

Any comments? Thanks

I've purchased extended warranties on two Hondas. They've been completely useless, if you ask me. Hondas are just too reliable.

The only time I've ever used one was to replace a hatch strut on a DC2 ITR track car at 90-some thousand miles.

My 2006 Accord is at 80,000 miles and still no sign of any need of a warranty.

Every time I but one, I don't need it. Every time I don't buy one, it has cost me triple what the warranty would have cost. Just my luck I guess.

These warranties are offered for a reason. The policy holder is gambling that they will not pay out in repairs over what you paid for the warranty. The odds are in their favor. Just like a blackjack table, most of the time the house wins, but sometimes you win.

I purchased an 09 Accord V6 coupe in August, and snagged a 110K/8yr extended warranty with a $0 deductible for $1,300. With a price tag of $3K-$5k to replace the navigation system it was, for me, not too much money for the peace of mind, and the warrant will transfer when I sell the car in a few years.

Well. The way that I drive, there will be nothing left of the 100K warranty if I sell the Accord.

Bought in December 2005 (a coupe and a sedan) and both already over 80,000 miles.

Is he talking about the service plan or warranty plan?

Dealerships are selling "Service Plans" where you get free oil change (maintance) for XX months.

It's a way to make sure you ONLY go back to their dealership for service. The dealer will give you the oil and tire rotation, but will get you BIG on the other maintance and repair items.

Then you take it to another shop. Have them do it half way or break it. Return it to the dealer and let them do it the right way.
Sometimes cheapest is not best

Very true. We could also say, just because one pays more, that does not always equal to better service, quality, etc.

My experience in buying the extended warranty is that I paid too much. I used consumer reports advice and did very nicely until the finance gal surprised me with the "plan". Little did I know this was negotiatable. Like 100k for 8 years below, I paid $1200 for 80k and 5 yrs (bad deal). So, C/R needs to amend their advice.
Was this why I got 4 new alloy wheels because I pointed out the corrosion around the center caps, or would the standard warranty have done the same? This is my first Honda (06 sedan EX-L 4cyl AT) and I took it without a test drive! I get 27 in town and 35 hwy (regardless of driving 60 or 80 mph) and enjoy every mile. I addded a K&N filter and a fancy loud muffler (one of those stainless steel overpriced types). I use synthetic oil which might also be a factor.
Had I known about 3M protective products I would not have bought the bra. The mirrors, headlights and fog lamps have the coating now though, 5 year guarantee for chips & defects, amazing product, highly recommended.
My latest improvement is a Viper 5701 remote/alarm which I'm battling how to get remote control of the up and down of all 4 windows. My joining this forum is to find out which connection will interface with the door key that does the trick. The installer could not get it to work and wants to add a module and rewire the doors. I go back this week to finish the install to effect the windows and adding a 529T to open and close the moon/sunroof. Would you believe $900.00+?
so, keep your wheels waxed and don't use strong wheel cleaners on 'em.

yeh, never get extended warranties, especially on manual transmission car. bc they always rip you off and say "it's wear and tear" or you "raced" your car or you used "racing fuel" when really u used premium fuel. so save urself the money, everything else you can do for cheap at other shops, plus, most things that you have to service ur vehicle for is wear and tear parts such as brake pads, belts, tires, clutch, etc, so you're gonna end up paying for that service anyways, and warranties are BS, don't go through HONDA, dats my experience

i ended up canceling my extended warranty after complaining and they refunded me
