A new stock one should work alright... I've used my stock one (never changed) on my turbo d16y8 for 9 months now.. no problems..

Y-series bottom ends have bad oiling for performance. They just produce low numbers.

D16A6 Oil pump flows 46.4 qt/min@6250rpm
D16Z6 Oil pump flows 47.6 qt/min@6000rpm
D16Y8 Oil pump flows 35.3 qt/min@6800rpm

Here are some numbers...you can see the Y-series oil pump flows SIGNIFICANTLY LESS oil and it's also spinning at the highest RPM as well. Generally/theoretically speaking, the faster you spin the pump, the more oil it pumps. Well it's spinning faster then the rest and it's flowing a lot LESS oil.
IMO I'd steer clear of the Y8 oil pump unless its been modded as stated above.

thanks to the 3 responses. i knew the y8 was the worst of the d-series oil pumps and as of right now that's what i think gave out on my 1st turbo setup. (which is why i'm now looking for the better/more reliable pump)

another question, is the z6 pump compatible with a y8 block? i know in almost all respects that parts for the d-series are nearly identical(if they aren't identical) but for instance the oil pans for the z6 don't match perfectly on a y8 block... is this a similar issue with the oil pump or can you interchange them?
