im trying to decide which more is better i know the ls vtec is a great motor but is not that reliable.....the b16 is a other good motor but doesnt have much torque i only have money for a b16 or ls vtec which would u pick????

 

if you dont have much know how/about i would stick with the b16.

Ive been contemplating going ls/v but im afraid of what i might run in to.

 

if built right a ls/vtec is just reliable as any other Honda motor. i would go ls/v but thats just me.

 

LS/vtec = A lot of money especially if you have a shop assemble it for you. If you assemble it yourself, you're looking at a lot of time as well (assuming your a beginner engine builder).

B16 = Basically just money (depending on what you're dropping it into).

I'd say that your overall skills and knowledge determine the motor choice rather than just what you want.

Any engine build is going to cost some money.
An LS/VTEC that is built using most OEM components can be reliable.
Only things you'd need that wouldnt be OEM would be:
GE VTEC conversion kit
ARP Head studs
ARP Rod bolts
But then again, you can build it with OEM head studs and rod bolts, but I'd recommend you dont.
As far as B16 vs Ls/VTEC.. B16 has less torque..
I went the Ls/VTEC route, But I have Eagle rods, and CP pistons.
I also have a B16 in my CRX with CTR pistons on stock rods, CTR cams, skunk2 valvetrain.
The B16 is just like a D16, until VTEC engages. The Ls/VTEC is a different story.

 

And yeah, if you've never rebuilt an engine, I'd probably stick with a stock engine.
Unless you have some mechanical know how..
Could always start with a stock LS engine, and then add a vtec head later..

 

I wouldnt trade my lsv setup for the world. Its as reliable as it can get for a dohc vtec motor. like said above if it is done right, with a feasable selection of parts it will run like a champ.

Right now im making 191hp and 134tq but considering i have no headwork done, and im really making most of the power through the 12:1 cr, and just stage 1 cams im not doing so bad.. (yes there are other mods done, but i didnt feel it was necessary to list EVERYTHING)

 

def. go ls/vtec..Im building my b20/vtec as we speak but for full reliability, go with the b16..ls/v can last too, gotta have the pockets to spend to have the right stuff..

 

because of ur money status stick with the b16 .. but on any other day wen u have money an want more torgue ls vtec or b20 vtec is the way to go
