Default problems turning/klunking noise after burnout and down track

Did a burnout at the track friday night and as soon as I rolled out of the water box where it caught traction the car pulled real hard to the right and I could hardly turn it back to straighten it out. Down the track the car wanted to pull right and I had a hard time even trying to turn left to get it straight. At the end I almost had to come to a complete stop to get turned at the return lane. The car drives straight with no noise but steering wheel jerks like hell and can't hardly turn the car either way. If I'm at a stop and have the wheel cut either way and slowly move forward or reverse I can move about 2-3ft. and then I can feel something bind up. It then lifts the car up just a touch in the front end klunks real loud then the steering wheel feels like it's back to normal then keeps repeating. My first thought was a diff...I am on open diff k20 6spd trans. and then someone said it may be an axle but I'm not sure I haven't had anything happen like this before. Any help would be great so I can run down the problem I have a race in a week. Also it even binds up when in neutral and pushing the car. It binds up so bad can't even push the car anymore. It doesn't klunk or jump when completely straight though.

It really sounds like an axle. Did you pull them out and check if you broke anything?

Maybe you chipped a tooth on a gear or final drive ring? If a tooth gets wedged between the final drive and the countershaft pinion gear, it'll bind the entire driveline. But, you say it only happens when turning?

Our recently discovered clunking noise was a loose rear drivetrain mount. The bolts to the subframe backed out due to not being torqued properly the first time. Every time she would get off the throttle, it would bang the mount on the subframe.

right now I'm thinking it's an axle also. I had them out once and checked everything out. when the car is up in the air when I turn the steering wheel the wheels jump up and down a little bit and pretty sure they never did that before.

I no longer think it's the trans. I drained fluid and nothing came out and with the axles out looking through nothing looks out of place. no bad noises from trans and it still pulls as hard as ever just real stiff to turn and it seems like it wants to pull right a little when driving down the road. Besides axles is there anything anybody else can think of?

Are you using OEM Honda driveshafts? I've got a set I can loan out for the race.

no Dss 2.9's. I have a spare set I'm throwing in this weekend when I get home but thanks anyways. Plus I guess it doesn't help the race was canceled. Guess I'll be trying to get it done for edgewater that weekend.

This is what I also thought but drained trans fluid and nothing came out. looked through the trans where the axles go in and it looked fine from what I could see. also this same thing happened at the begining of the year. I changed the axle and a few other things and it fixed it. I think one of the problems was my brakes hanging up on the right side before but it's not looking like that now.

Any other ideas anyone?

I busted an axle not too long ago , actually it broke the cage inside the outside cv and it had the EXACT same symptoms...the steering wheel jerked back and forth so hard it felt like I was driving over parking curbs with just one of the car. put it in the air and try to turn the wheels by hand, make sure you do it with the wheels turned both ways and straight and you'll find which axle it is.

Mine did the same thing! I broke the trypod of gator axles and then put a new one in and it still binds up! i figured it was the tranny so i pull mine the other day pulled it apart and metal shavings everywhere! im useing a obx diff so that might be it but i have no idea

My car is still open diff. When I took the axles out and looked through everything still looked intact and no shavings around anywhere. No teeth worn off or anything. I'm hoping it was the axle I will have new ones in it friday so I guess we will see. If something in the diff was broke or messed up some metal shavings would come out when draining trans fluid right?

Not always. The magnet catches a lot of that.

when I've seen open diffs go out they are always cocked sideway, teeth missing, and shavings laying down around it. Mine still looks to be in brand new shape. I stuck my finger inside the hole where the axle goes and wiggled the pin in the middle around and it still moves fine and is attached just like it's supposed to be. I'm just really hoping that's not what it is. I have a race I want to make this weekend and it's the last one left this year so I'm hoping it is the axle because I don't want to pull and pul another diff in just for one last race this year because I'll be changing to a 5spd next year anyway.

Got the car back together tonight with new axles and it feels 10x better steering but it still wants to pull a little to the right no matter if I'm on it or not. Is there anyway I could've thrown the car out of alignment when it hooked out of the burnout box. We are leaving for a race tomorrow and I'm still trying to figure this thing out. Only thing I can think of is go tomorrow morning and have someone check to see if it's out of alignment.

New axles fixed the binidng/turning problem. Still wanted to pull right so we did an alignment and the car goes down the track great now.

did you ever get the problem corrected?
i have a bad noise when i turn left or right, it sounds like a pops gear or binding noise around the drivers rear wheel area, it doesn't make the sound when driving
but when your going slow and turning it's very bad, any ideas????
my baby is broken.

Rear wheel??? Is it front wheel drive? My problems were with the front end from launching and yes it's fixed.
