H22A into EG, What ECU?
hi all,
i've searched but havent come up with any firm answers. none that i could make sense of anyway...
I've got a 93 EG civic and a 95 honda prelude H22A half cut. i plan on doing the swap but im a noob when it comes to electronics. I've found the info i need to figure out what i have to modify on both harnesses (civic and prelude engine harness) to get the H22 to work but what i'm stuck on is the ECU.
After adapting the H22 harness into the civic one do i use the prelude ecu (P13) or the civic one (p28) to run the H22? pretty much what i wanna know is which ecu do i plug my moddified harness into to get the H22 running in my civic?
Also i want to run Hondata after i get the setup running and i've worked out that a integra (p72) ecu would be best as it has knock and secondary butterfly control. but how would this work with the setup? do i just get a P72 ecu and plug it in? will it run? or will i have to get it chipped and then tuned to make it work?

do not use the p28 to run the h22. p28 runs a little motor, p13 runs a big motor. you can either use your p13 and properly hook everything up to avoid a check engine light or go with an ECU chipped for an h22.

I'm sure there is but it requires a lot more work, why don't you just run a chipped p28 ?

We have 3 in our shop right now, all running chipped p28's . It doesn't get much easier then that really. If you get an internal coil distributor you really don't have to do any wiring, besides extending things. How simpler do you want it ?

I'm running a modified Z6 harness and a chipped P28 with the internal coil 90black mentioned.
When I first put my hatch together I had 1 day to do it so I didn't have time to chip and tune the ECU. I drove it around like granny on the stock P28 'til I had time to finish the job. When I had time I did a compression and leakdown test, changed the fluids, made sure nothing was leaking then put the hammer down

Running the p13 does not require alot more work, only the addition of three sensors if you already have a z6 harness. Some people prefer to run the oem ecu to minimize the probability of problems and to run an oem basemap without having to send the ecu out to be chipped and wait on it to get back. You can find this information in the H22 FAQ at the top of the hybrid forum. If you decide to do a programmed ecu, I would recommend ordering one from pherable.net. They give you the option to eliminate the extra sensors, set your vtec engagement point, add a 2 step launch control, and other things all for $175 and 3 day shipping. That's the route I will be going with my H2B swap.

Cheapest way and effective and safe, would be to run a P28 Ecu and get it Crome Tuned...
There are Basemaps available for H22 using the P28 ecu (phearable is good) . which work pretty good but never as safe or as effective as tuning.
Get it tuned. And get a P28.. You don't need the knock sensor or the butterflies. Just disable them. i gained 6 whp on the dyno disabling the butterflies.

Easiest to do is the P13, you have it and its for that engine. Hooking up a few sensors is not as hard as everyone seems to be telling you it is. Getting rid of the IABs may get you some HP higher up, but it also gets rid of some of the low end torque you got the H22 for.
If you are always using the h22 injectors that require a resistor box, you will need to wire those in.

I'd rather have that power band a little higher since that's where the car is most of the time and gain that extra horsepower from removing the iab's , and porting the manifold.

ok i really don't suggest using that ECU unless you don't want the most out of your motor...
put it this way,
92 civic 4 door. stock JDM H22 with hotshot header
1/4 mile times with each ECU
p13 ECU - 14.3
Stock GSR ecu - 13.7
Chipped GSR Ecu - 13.3
Chipped P28 Ecu - 12.8
This was in a full interior Daily driven 4 door.
All Runs were made on the same day, i kept switching ECU's and i was waiting for the guy to bring me my chipped Ecu. This was back in 1998. ANd this was untuned.... there was no Hondata or Crome back then.
Now with Tuning there is a lot more available.
Its up to you but i recommend the P28 Chipped and Tuned. Tuning is the key to running smooth, safely, and to get the most out of your motor.
you could be running lean and not even know it. Tuning over anything would be my #1 recommendation.
Good luck on whatever you choose! let me know if you need any H22 parts.
