well its been a long time coming but my EJ1 is finally running again with a solid rebuilt Z6. I was just a little curious on what you guys do to break in your motors

It was me first time to remove an engine and rebuild it was well worth the end result

I'm under the impression a lot of people use non-detergent ($1/quart crap at supermarkets) oil for a few miles, change it, repeat etc... That's for the piston rings. It's considered "necessary", but varies depending on piston.

http://www.google.com/search?q...eakin has more information than I can provide. But it's definitely something to consider.

Edit: vvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvv Ah, I see. I'm at a blank there.

I was not really referring to the oil im more or less talking about what rpms to keep it at or not to go over so i dont blow it up (again)

take it slow for the first 3,000 miles.. meaning no vtec or anything stupid like that.. after 3,000 ocassionally hit vtec once and then calm down again. also get a magnetic drain plug for your oil pan..

I've been told that it's also important to vary the rpms while driving, meaning avoid maintaining steady rpms...but i'm far from being an expert

Here's my short list

let engine idle about 1500rpm for the first 20 minutes, shut off change oil and filter

drive car for 500 miles no long WOT only short burst of rpm

Hint, check to make sure all external bolts are still tight.

change oil and filter at 500 miles

drive car for 1000 miles, no very long WOT, change oil & filter

drive car for 1500 miles change oil and filter.

Now drive it like you stole it...

this is a good sufficient way. i would just ad a valve lash check at 500 and cut open your oil filters for the first couple changes
