Default For all the TYPE R owners with ALARMS

I own a company that works with insurance companies in canada and what we do is analyze cars and their theft rates. We get paid to literally steal cars (provided by the insurance companys). We find ways to break into them and steal them. We then pass on the information to the insurance company's in return they can more thoroughly inspect vehicles that have been stolen to see if it could be potential insurance frauds/scams.

that being said we also deal with aftermarket alarm and tracking products. We see how effective they are and how to install them properly. and we found a common and major problem in the way alarms are installed a very long time ago and here it is....

eventhough the alarm is activated the doors can be opened without triggering the alarm.

this is due to poor installation or improper setup of the alarm. so to all you guys who have alarms and think its actually activated go and have a double check....the simplest way to do this is....

activate your alarm and give it about 30 seconds to engage. after that using your key unlock the driver side door and check to see the alarm is actually being triggered. if it is do the same all over again to your hatch and to your passanger door. another thing you should remember is to make sure your door trigger switch thats on the jams is functional as most alarms are wired up to the sensor to indicate an open door.

takes 2 mins out of your life but it saves so much....just a heads up.

A motion sensor can fix this problem, no?

Thanks for the information, really informant for those who haven't checked their car in ages.

a motion sensor (proximity) sensor sends tons of false info.

prox sensors work as a dome bubble. and since i cant recall a dome shaped bubble car this makes it not work so well. your stuck between choosing to either have a bigger bubble which will cause false readings or have a smaller bubble which in many ways is useless depending on what the thief is up too.

Thats a pretty offensive comment in my mind.

For someone that lived in Canada for 9 years that comment pissed me off.

So you are a person that installed alarms in Canada and did not check to see if they worked properly?
Well...

The point is, an alarm is only as effective as the install. Additionally, alarm units become faulty. Taking the 30 seconds to check won't hurt anyone- you can only benefit from checking.

the poinst is to double check, alarms can go bad after a while, not everything is perfect. i have not seen a single alarm that did not do something odd at least once in a while, electronics fail all the time, theres always a chance brain module could malfunction and not read door, hood or trunk sensor.. thus, check your alarm periodically, no need to be a dick, he's just trying to help!

thats one of the most ignorant statements ive heard on here in a long time

some people only install the switch to the drivers side door switch which makes the passenger side easy to get into etc etc, the best way is to have it on the passenger door which is looped into the drivers side and makes both doors a trigger

also the trunk wire is very hard to find with honda's and most shops wont take the time to install an alarm the right way

I'm glad there are so many people here who can't comprehend WTF I typed...

To all of you that are getting bent out of shape over what I said. Answer this QUESTION:

Are you a Canadian that installs alarms and does not check the work after to make sure it's working properly? Yes or No?
In French too... Etes-vous Canadien qu'installe des alarmes et ne vérifie pas le travail après avoir s'assurer qu'il travaille convenablement ? Oui ou Non ?

Now if you still are getting bent about this, I suggest getting someone who reads above a 8th grade level to explain it to you.

Seriously, the only one who should be offended at my above comment is the people who install alarms that suck.

Thanks for trying to clear that up I understood what you meant, but to be critical for a moment, your wording was terrible.

Go back to school jj.

Regarding the topic, I think what this gentleman is trying to say is that be sure to check your sensors regularly, and service if necessary. It wouldn't be the weirdest occurrence for one of these things to jam or seize. A simple reminder, and one not many would think about.

Oh, everyone relax.

Rob was just pointing out the obvious thing. Got an alarm? Test it to see if it works.

As for the dumb Canadians comment, knowing Rob he meant it in a lite hearted way.

Relax, it's Sunday. Watch some football and relax.

I don't trust anyone to install my alarms. Do some research and install it yourself. DIYFTW.

there are alot of crooked shops out there aswell. that seem legit but have connections with thieves etc and they do installs and then later on get the thief or thieves to bring back the car since they got the adress of the car and even a remote and possibly a master or even duplicated key.

So if I said something like "Americans are self-absorbed ********", but really meant it in a lite-hearted way, people wouldn't bitch at me?

He said there were a lot of idiots in Canada. You don't say that by accident. No matter what you try to tell me, or he tries to tell me, we all know how he truly feels about Canadians...and to come out in the open like that, in an essentially international forum, is plain ignorant.

There is no excuse for that behaviour.

bbasso as many have stated electronics go bad easily all the time and when you give your car to someone else to work on that you consider a professional you expect it to be done right.....however that doesnt mean professionals dont make mistakes or forget.

Nope I ment it as I said. An alarm installer that does not check his/her work is an IDIOT. Rather simple.
