Default autometer tach not working...

hello, i just installed an autometer 5" tach on my 93 civic, followed all instructions and hooked it up to the blue wire that comes from the distributor and it does not read RPM right. It reads too low, maybe half of what the real RPMs are. Is there any other way to hook it up?? let me know.

Thanks

there should be 2 wires that are looped in the back, one color is for 6 the other is for 4 cylinder cars, you have to cut one of these wires. im not sure what one look back in your directions for that.
